Just watched the funniest Saturday Night Live skit I've seen in a while. Al Gore was hosting tonight, and the skit had him visiting the set of The West Wing, and talking to the cast and stuff, especially Martin Sheet. It was so funny. Gore wanted to stay in the faux-president's chair the whole time, and role-play giving out orders and stuff. I loved how the WW cast (playing themselves) kept giving him funny looks and sidelong glances of "Let's just humor him."
I was surprised, but the jokes on this SNL episode have been pretty well written so far, and like all other SNL hosts, Gore's been required to make fun of himself and his career, and he's actually been fairly amusing in doing so.
But I love the WW, and so I loved that skit.
BTW, that makes me think of this other thign about The West Wing that I was talking about with someone else on LJ earlier-- Josh's disparaging remarks about TV fandom, especially Star Trek fans. At first I didn't understand why they did that, since it seemed like the writers' of a TV show were insulting TV fans for liking TV. But it wasn't until I mentioned it to my dad that he pointed out that I'd missed the point, because I'd missed an earlier discussion.
Apparently Josh's riding of the assistant that wanted to wear her (modest) Star Trek pin to the office was supposedly to reflect Josh's hypocrisy, because he'd put up a fus over Sam was taking the sports pennet that had been hanging in the office with him as he left.
Since I don't remember that earlier part, I'm gonna take my dad's word on this. Also, thinking about it that way makes me feel less betrayed by having one of my favorite TV characters (though I admit, an often quite fallible one) say people who are attentive fans of tv shows are weird.
