Monster, episode 1, 10:30 minutes in:

"Not all lives are of equal importance."

::gasp:: Bitch! Dump her, Simon Tam Tenma. She's evil. Dump her, and then run away to wander around train stations looking out for creepy stuff the way you do in the opening credits!

15:40 minutes in:

Dude, Tenma my boy, did you just wake up on the wrong side of the bed today and start noticing things you've never even had a clue about, or what? How could you work for this guy and go out with this woman and not notice how completely inhuman they are?

20:00 minutes in:

This hospital is so fucked up.

I've said it before once, but the ending credits imagery for this show just CREEPS ME THE FUCK OUT. Like, seriously. It's just wrong and disturbing. Not in a gross way, but in a way that makes me want to hide under the covers and never come out.

Clearly I will be needing more than 4 episodes of this show.

Beautiful opening credits, aren't they?

GAh, he's so pretty attractively well-intentioned.

I wouldn't say beautiful. They're too dark and muddy-colored and murky to be beautiful. But they are a) creepy, b) wonderfully animated, c) haunting, and d) stylish.

Just started watching Firefly, and "hee!" to the Simon Tam ref.

The ending credits are like a truly little creepy vignette. The style they're drawn in reminds me of Princess Tutu's opening credits a little. They serve an important story purpose, too. They change and grow as you go along. It's all fucked up, in a really satisfying way.

The end theme can be d/l-ed here:

I haven't had any success finding the opening theme, though. :(

Thanks for the heads up. :) I'll watch for that. And thanks for the music! It's a sad song.

GOOD. You'll have to watch all of Firefly (13 eps I think?) and then go see Serenity the movie in September. Which is way, way, too far away.

So far Tenma reminds me kind of of Simon. The smartest doctor, decent-hearted, upper class, conflicted about his duty.

I like that they sort of made an explanation for him being Japanese in relation to the setting-- saying he was originally from Japan. They could have just set the story in Europe and not even mentioned the fact that they drew him to look sort of Japanese, and that everyone's speaking Japanese (though I'm sure THAT's for the audience's benefit.)

According to the Monster page on anime news network [http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=3750], the opening is "Grain" by Kuniaki Haishima.
