Jun. 1st, 2005 07:39 pmYay! Princess Tutu DVD#1, has arrived!
I'm sorry for kicking you Netflix. I should have kicked the mailman instead for being late to deliver today.
Right now I'm watching all the extras, since I'm in no rush to watch the episodes themselves. I have to say, this DVD is pretty lush-- a lot of extras, pretty menus, lots of informational stuff on ballet & not only bloopers, but also behind-the-scenes stuff from the recording studios, and actor commentary (of episode 1! With the VAs of Fakir & Ahiru! It's fate. Totally.)
I knew it ahead of time, but I'm still bummed they translated Ahiru as "Duck" instead of "Ducky."
And now I am even more set in the opinion that Chris Patton, who voices Fakir, should voice Uchiha Sasuke. It'll probably not happen, but he would be my ideal choice for Sasuke's VA. Because much like Fakir, Sasuke is all kinds of bitchy.
Favorite commentary line so far:
CHRIS PATTON
"...my favorite character that I'm doing right now, Fakir. I think he's really...um......witchy with a capital B, is what he is. And he's always wearing tights, so maybe that's part of his discomfort."
That really long pause in the middle? You could totally tell he wanted to say "gayest ballet dancing male dominatrix ever."
EDIT: It amuses me to no end that the jokes in the commentary by the VAs are for viewers at minimum 5 years older than the average viewing audience age of PT. Clearly they get and love all the subtext in this show. I can't wait to listen to the commentaries on future episodes. Especially season 2.
EDIT#2: 2nd favorite commentary line so far:
Fakir is talking to Mytho in their dorm room.
CHRIS PATTON
I call this scene Queer Eye for the Anime Guy.
LUCI CHRISTIAN
Mytho is Carson. But, you know, without a heart.
Edit#3: I can't wait to listen to these two VAs do commentary on later episodes. Especially around 11-13, or 20-26. Their reactions were a lot like my own in watching the first episodes: lots of squee mixed with delighted WTF?s.
