Unfortunately, with finals this week I haven't had time to make any cover art or CD-sticker art. But if someone is interested in making some, please post it, because I'd love to use it myself!
Themes
Time Travel Lament
The disc starts out with the song Liquid Spear Waltz from the Donnie Darko OST. It's an eerie, beautiful piece of music, not very long, and is my nod to time travel and the Doctor's tragic lost past. If you've ever seen Donnie Darko you'll get why it's a time travel reference, and for those who haven't... it's a lovely song that borders on melancholy, depending on how you take it. I like it for the sense of closeness and intimacy it conveys, and the sense of sadness. Nine is one angsty fellow, more than a little dark inside, and thus he deserves a pretty piece of piano time travel music.
Stars, the Universe, and Everything
From the beginning I was drawn to songs that featured heavy star/galaxy/sky/astronomy themes. You'll see this in Satellite, Stellar, At The Stars, Across The Universe, and Such Great Heights. Dr. Who is about a lot of that anyway as a show (at least this season which I've seen), and one of the major themes is not just the Doctor running around solving the universes problem's... it's showing Rose the universe. He's literally bringing her to the stars, to the wonderous and sometimes terrible things that exist out there. And the interesting thing about that theme is that for he shows her the universe, they nonetheless often end up grounded in Rose's very small, very pedestrian and domestic life. The Doctor says he doesn't do domestic, but he seems to be doing it inadvertantly anyway. While he's showing Rose the universe, Rose is showing him the smaller and more private world of regular people.
It's You I Fell Into
Here we go. The love songs. The fun, quirky, upbeat songs that capture what makes Nine/Rose such a cute and snakry and enjoyable pairing. And devoted--for these two there Ain't No Mountain High Enough. Love comes in unexpected places and sometimes it takes a long long time to figure out, seen in All For You, Only Wanna Be With You, and Big Me. And of course, alluding back to the previous theme of the big universe v. Rose's small world-- you can't forget Mickey as competetion. There's Two Princes after Rose's heart on this journey. This Modern Love and Will You Dance are more Nine POV, with This Modern Love going into the somewhat obsessive nature of his affection for Rose, and Will You Dance touching on his social views at the same time as his need for something good to cling to to find happiness after all the badness he's seen, and the idea of taking a chance on love despite all the potential bad. Also, dancing!
That Damn Regeneration Angst
It's coming, and it's gonna hurt. Although we don't want to accept it, music will perhaps help us come to terms with it. These next songs are more Rose-centric, being that she's going to be the one left feeling the loss. If You Leave, Goodbye To You, and Long Long Time make me want to write sobbing angsty fanfic, so hopefully they have the same effect on you. Ending with the instrumental version of Unchained Melody, a nod to classic unbearably tear-jerker death scenes.
Full Circle
The last songs on the disc are about moving forward and coming together again. Tender is a wonderful song about finding yourself again after being lost, and finding love. And At The Beginning With You is probably my penultimate Rose/Doctor song. Just read the lyrics! It doesn't get any better. These two are all about the adventure, the journey, and in the end finding each other again.
Well, that's it folks! I hope you enjoy the music, and I hope you actually burn it to a CD instead of just picking it apart for various individual songs you want-- something I admit to being guilty of on occasion. ;)

Date: 2005-06-17 03:35 am (UTC)Since the title of the mix is "When The World Stops Turning" (taken from "At The Beginning With You" lyrics), it'd be cool to have one of the images be a shot of the Doctor and Rose looking down on Earth. And of course at least image moment of gratuitos hand porn. Maybe something of them staring at each other longingly (like your icon), or dancing... anything really. I'll probably love it no matter what. As long as it's shippy, I'm easy to please. :) Just go with whatever you think will look cool, in whatever size or order you like.
oooh! But no overwhelming pink, please. Bits of pink in Rose's clothes or something or in brushes are okay but too much pink makes me cringe.

I made the tracklisting resized proportionally. If you look at the right side of the back, the words are now closer to the edge than before because they are enlarged.

Date: 2005-06-17 03:32 am (UTC)Thanks for putting this together -- I can tell you gave it some thought, and it really works, imo. A nice tribute to the OTP, but also to Nine. I imagine I shall listen to this after watching Parting of the Ways, and cry like a little fangirl.
Again, thank you. :)

Date: 2005-06-17 04:02 am (UTC)It was the first song I thought of for this FST, although "At The Beginning With You" is my ultimate OTP song. Still, "This Modern Love" has lyrics that stick in my mind like "You told me you wanted to eat up my sadness."
