Fruits Basket
Volumes 6-8:
As much as I adore reading the Kyo/Tohru stuff and the Kyo vs. Yuki stuff, when it comes to the manga form I have to say Shigure is my favorite character. And when it's Shigure AND Ayame, that's even better.
volume 9, chapter 53:
OMFG. Is Rin, the one cursed as a Horse, and also the girl who I believe is the same person that dumped Hatsuharu a few months ago (assuming I read that right), like totally throwing herself at Shigure?! OMG! They're leaning in! And now it's cut off the scene and I don't know what happened next? Is Shigure fucking Haru's ex-girlfriend? That's so wrong! And weirdly hot, but---so wrong!
volume 10:
OMFG. Akito is way too physically casual with Shigure. I already know the Akito Spoiler Of Doom so knowing that ahead of time just adds even MORE weirdness, and.... dude, it's like half-a-million fanfics come to life before my eyes.
OMFG. Their teacher is Shigure's ex-girlfriend TOO?!
Since when does Shigure get this much action? He's like a total slutbomb in this volume. Not that I'm complaining (heck, I'd read Shigure/anyone doujinshi if I had some to read), but whoa. When did this happen? Or was he always this busy and we just never knew until now?
OMG?! And his ex-girlfriend was in love with Hatori when Hatori was dating Kana? That's so fucked up! I love it! It's like in two volumes FB goes from cute semi-romantic family/friendship comedy of the younger set to the dark, twisted sex lives of the older generation. Awesome. I wish more of Fruits Basket had been animated.
Chapter 56, page 13. Shigure, I totally understand now why you get so much action.
Dude, it's like an entire volume on the hotness of Shigure and Shigure fangirling by the author. Sweet. He's getting so much more character development, and yet he's STILL so friggin' mysterious and hard to pin down.

Damn. Now they've gone and made me a Teacher/Hatori shipper too. And I know the chances of finding good fic about any of the adult characters for FB are just about null.
Chapter 58 ...Damn, this series is so freaking good with it's character development. I mean it has to be, because it's ALL character development, but... damn. Poor Tohru, for being criticized about her mom. Yay for Kyo for reading Tohru so well. Poor Yuki, so being so friggin' in love with Tohru when she's head over heals with Kyo.
I'm noticing something going on in the last 5 volumes I've been reading. Yuki thinks about Tohru a lot and pines for her, but he doesn't open up to her as much as he wants. Kyo on the other hand now pretty much completely opens his feelings to Tohru, and encourages her to be open with him. For example, Yuki keeps thinking about his past connection to Tohru via the hat-- but he's thinking about in relation to his own problems with the Sohma curse. Compare that to Kyo, who's thinking more about the future than the past, and who, instead of hiding, actively sought out Tohru's opinions on the future, and made it as much about her as about him. One boy looking back, one boy "looking forward. I think if Yuki is romantically interested in Tohru then he'd better step up his game plan because pretty soon just pining for her and being her friend ain't gonna be enough.
Hatori: "Stop messing around, or you'll really screw things up."
Shigure: "What else is there left that isn't already screwed up? Since it's already like that anyway, what's the difference if I turn everything upside down to achieve what I want?"
Shigure you gorgeous, manipulative little fuck. I love you. You rock so much, even though I want to smack you and you also kind of scare me sometimes.
Also, points to you for being that good. You play Akito like a fiddle.

Damn, why oh WHY couldn't the anime have had a second season?
Volume 11:
Rin: "Kagura. Don't you want to quit your unrequited love? It looks painful." Okay, dude, LOVE HER IMMEDIATELY.
No, Tohru! Don't get swayed by Yuki's suave under-the-moonlight forehead kisses! Kyo is waiting for you back at home and he is so much hotter. and more considerate. And you two can play in the sand together. Lots of fun things to do in the sand. ::swats suave!Yuki away from Tohru-kun:: Back, back suave!Yuki! You can't have her!
Chapter 61: It's fucking scary how appropriate this whole beach arc is becoming with my work-in-progress fic "Mon Autre Vie". I mean, the coincidences are getting downright unnerving.
Chapter 62-63: Gratuitous hand-holding! Kyo angst! Kyo's internal confessions of love! More angst! Psycho!Akito! More gratuitous hand-holding!
More Thoughts:
I love that while both Yuki and Kyo are coming to realize how much they care about Tohru, they're also started to act more independently from her and from their previous complexes. Yuki is getting bolder, and changing his role in the Akito dynamic. Kyo is getting to appreciate Tohru in a way that is more selfless, and was able to get enough self-control to not endanger Tohru to Akito. And Yuki supported that in his own way. I don't like that Kyo's apparently giving up, but I do like that he's getting wiser about appreciating what he has instead of being so angry.
I just wish that the resolution that Yuki and Kyo got in the anime regarding his monster transformation had also happened in the manga. In the anime Yuki ran after Kyo as well, and the end was almost as much about Yuki and Kyo's changing family/friend relationship as it was about the Kyo/Tohru relationship. There was a kind of resolution there, as Yuki also accepted Kyo for what he was, and gave his support. In the manga, that aspect of the confrontation never happened, so I keep telling myself not to make assumptions wiith it in mind.
Haru to Yuki: "Maybe we were sisters in a previous life."
That's what I love about Fruits Basket. It spoofs itself. I need to icon that...
Volume 14, chapter 78:
Had to skip volume 13 seeing as I stupidly FORGOT TO DOWNLOAD IT. ARGH. Anyway, it appears the scene back in volume 9 where it looked like Rin and Shigure were about to kiss wasn't a kiss after all. Damn. That would have been so twisted and hot and wrong. Probably better for Shigure this way, though. Makes him less creepy.
Although... she IS throwing herself at him! I knew it! Don't take the offer Shigure. Be strong.
Good Shigure. You are not nearly as perverted as you pretend to be. Or, well, you probably ARE, but you're even more manipulative, and your manipulative mysterious streak will always win over your perverted streak.
Hiro witnessed Akito pushing Rin OUT A WINDOW? Okay, making him the villain of my WIP is *so* justified. And I'm more and more glad I chose Hiro as the second major character after Tohru. There's so much potential in him-- potential good and potential fucked-up-ed-ness. Also, added onto what we already know about Akito's reaction to Hiro and Kesa... this explains so much about Hiro's horrible attitude and problems trusting people. Poor kid's grown up in a hell-house.
Wow. That's WAY too much manga to read all at once. And I *really* need to get Volume 13...

I read volume 15! OMFG! Yuki really sees Tohru as a mother figure! And Kyo's getting so attuned to Tohru's mannerisms that it's like they're already a couple! OMG! ::squees and dies::
