Episode 20 - Brother

The dub VA for Harry's older voice is pretty cool. He's especially good at doing the insane cackling. I have to say it again: Harry, you are so fucked in the head it's funny.

No, Bunji, no! Don't fight your blood brother Brandon, no! Stop shooting at him! Of all crazy murdering bastards on this show, you were the one I liked! You're just as psychotic as the rest of them, but you were the one I liked! And you were the one Brandon liked too; you guys were the Tweedle Dum and Tweedle Dee of hitmen! You can't fight! Stop!

I'm confused... my DVR recording of the episode cut out the last 30 seconds, and my DVDreader seems to be rejecting my DVDs with the fansubs. So I'm confused...

Did Grave beat Bunji to death?

If he did...God, that's sad. Bunji never knew why and Grave didn't have the capacity to tell him at the end.

Episode 21 - Duty

Yay! Bunji's alive! And out to get drunk, it seems. Hah. Well, in his position, I can see how that might sound like the most enjoyable of his options.

No, Grave just hurt his pride but that was a GRRRRRRRRREAT smack down. *lol* Its the main reason why he wanted to be superiorized after that beating (you missed that at the end I think unless it picked up from #21) At least it was the only time we got to see him with his shades off.

But the fight in #23 is a closure for Bunji as well when it comes to his feelings and Grave's. (actually kinda sad)

I'm in the middle of episode 21 now. It's nice things are moving so quickly after the slow pace of the first half of the show.

I haven't even seen 23 myself yet, as that was on Volume 6's disc. I should pull that out, since I'm not seeing SFU until tomorrow.

my DVD reader seems to not like any episodes off the disc past 19. I'd offer to post 23 in subbed for you except that I can't watch it myself yet. So far my tv has only recorded the dub up to23, but I though I'd wait two more nights and get the rest of the episodes then watch 23-26 all at once.

I have episode 23 (I lost my Volume 6 disc after I got it - this is business as usual around my house - and found it two days ago), just haven't watched it yet. I was wondering what happened with all of that myself, as well as with Lee, since something happened in episodes prior that affected his character.

Even though the zombie army makes sense at this stage in the show, I agree that it would've been the perfect series without it. Then again, that stuff's a major part of the video games the anime is based on, so ... There's rumors of a second Gungrave series.

I bawled my eyes out during the entire episode the above icon comes from.

Rumors of this series shouldn't even come to ANYONE's mind really. Seeing how the anime ends, *shakes head* never in a chance of hell will Madhouse think about animating GGOD. Its impossible and I have them to blame for that (and if possible Nightow too since I'm sure he told them it was fine if they didn't want GGOD). GGOD would've been so fucking awesome to see animated, in fact, the scans I posted awhile back of the GGOD artbook (http://photobucket.com/albums/v505/beckboo/Gungrave%20Overdose%20Artbook/), check out how much Madhouse has teased the fans w/ their designs of Billy and J. *weeps* Yes, I will always be bitter about this unless sometime in the nearnearnear future, something changes but I don't see it happening. That'd be like them making another Trigun to cover parts in the manga they didn't animate.

Have you seen the GGOD movie clips from the game? If not, I can upload it for the both of you's and post the YSI link.

See, I spent most of that episode laughing. I know, I know, that's horrible of me! But right up until the elevator ride I was cracking up. You can tell in my episode 14 response a few posts back.

I was laughing because it was like they were both thinking "Is he going to turn and shoot me any second now? ....hhhhnn....how about now.....hnnnn...Hey, let's go reminisce about clouds!"

Harry's smilling and chatting while thinking "If I stopped talking about our childhood and told him about my missuse of company funds, would he shoot me right now right here?"

And Brandon's thinking "Harry's getting really tense. He's acting like a cornered pitbull...is he going to go for his gun? If he draws his gun I'll have to draw mine too."

The conversation dies and a tense moment drags on. Both narrow their eyes. Moment drags on more.

Harry: Hey, wanna go joyriding in my car and check out girls?
Brandon: Sure.

They don't talk about their many personal problems, instead they go joyriding.

Harry: Remember how we were best friends as kids and suffered horrible mistreatment but loved life anyway with that carefree happy way that children do?
Harry thinking: You totally wouldn't shoot me. You're my bitchboy.

Brandon: Yes.
Brandon thinking: Don't go doing' anything that would have to make me shoot your sumbitch ass Harry.

Harry: *smiles fakely* Want to look at the blue clouds and pretend we aren't both murdering gangsters?
Brandon: *smiles fakely* Sure.

Harry thinking: You would shoot me, wouldn't you you prick?
Brandon thinking: I haven't decided yet. Gimme a minute.


Anyway, it had me laughing. Rolling on the couch laughing.


Then, of course, the end, where I was just kind of numb and sad and shocked. I knew it would happen (the tension was so well-built into the episode you could practically hear it singing in your ears by the time they go to the elevator), but I was shocked by the violence of his death. So very brutal. Harry didn't have to be brutal... but he was.

Of course, cosmically Brandon deserved it because we'd already seen him kill dozens of other people the exact same way. And it's inevitable that it would happen to him too. But it was still more violent than I was expecting. No single shot in the back or being pushed off a roof... it was 4-6 shots to the chest and a shot through the freakin' eyeball.

Harry: *smile*
Brandon: *smile*

Sorry I was wrong, it was #24. Once you watch that, I have an amvid for you if you'd like to check it out.

I guess when you think about it, knowing that all of the Big 4 went and wanted to get stronger was kinda of a get go from the start. Some characters may seem like they would never do such a thing but its all about power and all about wanting to take Grave down that's fueled them to do this or they had a reason one way or another (actually its really the only way to take Grave down is to be on his level).

Yeah I liked how it did pick up the pace but I just didn't want the series to end damn it :( (at least the way it did) *sighs*
