I've found a new way to pass the time while reading CFUD to wait for the vote that has my potential character: identifying and pointing out when supposedly "brilliant" characters make really obvious grammar or speech mistakes.

I just caught Kabuto's RPer saying "irregardless" instead of "regardless", and a few days ago I caught Haruno Sakura's RPer saying "except" instead of "accept".

A friend of mine has a serious pet peeve in the use of the word "irregardless". It's like nails on a chalkboard to her.

I don't like it (because it's not a word!), but it's still not the worst for me. The worst, the VERY WORST, is "libary". ARGH! It's "library", with an R.

That's exactly why it drives her crazy. "Irregardless is not a word! ARGH!" Then she passes out for an hour. Well, not really, but close.

I haven't seen that one in a while. One of mine is "cematary". Surprisingly common misspelling that grates. It's all "e"'s! No "a"'s!

...Dude, an RPG is supposed to be fun.

When you poke at grammar like that, you're not poking fun/harrassing the character. You're insulting/making fun of the player. Which makes it not fun to play.

Speaking as the player of a character who's smarter than I am? It's hard enough to maintain the proper 'voice' and intelligence level without the audience making you feel humiliated about your inability to play someone smarter than you. It makes the game not fun.

:( Sorry to dump cold water on you there, but ... that's not the fun sort of harrassment.

I'd wavered on whether to answer this or not, given that I'd already made a decision to only reply to certain people on the subject and only then on the relevent thread, but then I realized you must've had to scour back my journal a while to get to this. At least three pages.

So I admit I'm curious: what were you looking for when reading my journal that made you want to go back over 30 entries?

Did you find what you were looking for? (this? this entry is older than the other discussion, so if you were looking for me to be commenting on something from the other discussion, I have to tell you it doesn't exist.)

Is there anything else I can help you with finding?

I was just browsing. I do with CFUD's audience, sometimes -- browse back until I get bored, looking for commentary on the game. It's a way to pass the time.

Thanks for listening. I suppose I can't ask for anything else.

Well, so as not to make your browsing a waste, some commentary free of charge:

I sometimes browse character journals when I'm unfamiliar with a person's canon, hoping to might out more. Usually I find it a disappointing process because few people put any explanation up about their character or canon. They're by no means required to, but sometimes I wish more would put at least their application entry up so that I have something to go back to when I'm confused. As fates would have it, more often than not it seems the ones that DO put up descriptions are for characters I'm already familiar with.
