Someone on my flist (edit: [livejournal.com profile] herongale) uploaded an episode of "The Joy of Painting, with Bob Ross" a few days ago, and I nabbed it wondering Is this the show with that guy with the fuzzy hair who made painting look so easy?

It is!

I'm watching it now, and OMGIT'SLIKEHYPNOTISM.ICAN'TLOOKAWAY.

Oh look he's adding a tree!

And look at what he's doing with the pond reflection!

The foliage! How does he do that? I mean, I know how he did it because I just watched him do it, but HOW DOES HE DO THAT?

Now I want to get out my art supplies and try all his neat little tips. And I have an urgent desire to go buy some brushes. None of my brushes are as wide as his! How can I paint without that really wide round brush? I AM NOT COMPLETE WITHOUT IT!

Television is evil.

Bob Ross is a saint...

Or an evil wizard.

I'm not sure which.

It's weird how he does it. I can't look away. When I stop at that show, I just stare and stare, and I've never painted a day in my life.

It's the devil, I tell you.

Yes. They should have him do infomercials with his soothing, hypnotic voice. The television watchers of America would max out their credit cards in a day.

I'm sure he could if only he wasn't dead. Ya know, when I found that out a few yrs ago in a People's magazine that had a section about celeb's that had died, I had no clue he was one of them. I forget what he died from. I think his death and Eddie Rabbit's took me by surprise.

Was it a HAPPY tree?

All of his trees are happy. As are all of his clouds, his skies, his grasses, his cabins, his lakes, his pets... everything. Bob Ross only affiliates with happy entities.

Just once I would've liked him to paint a Dante's Inferno scene with fire and lakes of blood. Maybe they would've been happy lakes of blood, but you know, it would've been different :)

I think I'd like to see that too.

Was it a HAPPY tree?

Why yes, I think it was. Wowsers. I see you are wise and trained in the ways of our lord and master the hypnotism left a lasting impression on you...

JoIsBishMyoga: I can actually picture that. Bob Ross, all soft-voiced and smiling, tapping the paintbrush against the canvas. "There we go, happy little lake of blood..."
KatE021171: "Perhaps a little yellow here, and some orange here. Don't those look like cheerful little tongues of fire?"

Well, there's one up on my journal right now. I am trying to get the raws of the FMA movie, but I'll put some up later (raws are linked from the fm_alchemist list, FYI!). *snuggles*

Got the one you put up!

ooh, FMA MOVIE RAWS! That's so tempting... okay. I'll have to get those too, even though I probably won't watch it.

Aw, I love him, too -- mesmerised every time I zap across him.

(The paintings are always of exquisite fugliness, but it's all so sweet and serene and such!)

I don't think I'd ever buy one of his painting, but I do love watching him do them. Serious nostalgia going on from my childhood.
