A brief history of Rashaka's SGA shipper tendencies.
SGA, season 1:
I was willing to go with the Sheppard/Teyla stuff, because it was kinda cute, and why not?
I was thinking Weir/McKay would be an adorable ship if they decided to take it that way.
But then I had to admit McKay is too busy having brain-relationships with Zelenka and Carson, while being secretly sexually frustrated because he's not having an actual physical relationship with anyone, and perpetually won't because he's a dork, and a smug one a that. Maybe amusing & kinda cute smug dorks deserve to get laid too, but McKay probably never will. Or if he does it'll be an alien.
I was thinking Carson was just so adorable I didn't want him shipped with anyone because no one worthy or suited to his adorableness had appeared yet.
I was telling my fellow watchers (at the time, my parents but mostly my dad) how much I loved that I got a totally professional vibe from Sheppard and Weir, and that it was so refreshing that they didn't seem to written as having romantic undertones, just strong friendship born of professional respect.
SGA, season 2:
The idea of Sheppard and Weir's "strong friendship born of professional respect" was flatly bitchslapped by the OMG shippyness of the season premier and several little sucessive moments all throughout season 2 so far. I was watching and it hit me, "These two could be in love. Are they in love? Why didn't I notice all this before. This whole solid friendship thing is a total lie, isn't it. They kinda look like they wanna make out. And it's friendshipp-professional-respect-y based making-out looks!"
Teyla/Sheppard bores me to tears, but Teyla & Sheppard as Buddies Who Run Around And Shoot Things Together is awesome. I much prefer Teyla when she's being badass.
Ronon and Teyla need quality time together because they both deserve hot sex. Not a relationship, just the hot sex. If a relationship happens later, that's cool too. But first they deserve to get mutually laid. A lot. And for pillow talk they can make fun of "those silly Earthlings with their strange ideas for breakfast food."
McKay still doesn't get laid. Because getting laid would make him, I dunno, normal. And that would be sad, because he's funny when he's the smug dork who can't get laid and so complains all the time about his job.
For some reason, I've never shipped Ford with anyone. Dunno why.

Date: 2005-09-11 02:40 am (UTC)Actually, for Teyla I do sort of like it for that reason-- mainly because I find her the most interesting when she's not around the Atlantis team. It seems like in the group scenes she's given fewer lines and always fades into the background. I like her best when she's with just one other character on the Atlantis team, or with other characters altogether. I vascillate between finding her boring and finding her interesting... and the scenes with Ronon make Ronon seem more insteresting two, so I'd rather watches scenes of them together.
It's an odd thought, though, the fact about them both not being from Earth-- so far, Ronon resembles the Earth military team a lot more than Teyla does. For all his Billowing Coat Of The Great Wraith Hunter vibe, he actually seems a lot like Ford and Sheppard with the military stuff.
Hm. Just rambling... actually I'd like to see both Teyla and Ronon get more interesting writing. I'm still grumbling about the "part wraith" thing with Teyla... such a cheesy substitute for actual character development. They can't figure out how to make her personality more interesting, so they give her a superpower. ::sigh:: I'll take politician/chieftan!Teyla over super-wraith-ESP!Teyla any day.

Date: 2005-09-11 05:32 am (UTC)I agree. That's why I only mainly read fic for one pairing-- I don't see any need to pair up the others.
