Okay, Naruto's voice is not what I expected, but it's not a nightmare...and the Third is okay....

OH MY THAT'S NOT IRUKA'S VOICE! SHUT UP! ALL WRONG!

...Okay, his voice is okay when he's speaking normally. Weird, but okay.

Dude, they're saying his name weird.

Sakura's voice is alright. And they're pronouncing Sasuke's name okay.

Hah. I like Shikamaru's voice.

They're using words like "jutsu" and "shinobi". That's cool. And he keeps calling Iruka "sensei", which is cool too.

Nevermind, I don't like Iruka's voice after all. I know what it is-- he sounds too old. He's like, what, 22 or 23?

Damn. I keep going back and forth on Naruto's voice. I think they should have had him voiced by a young teenage boy, like Al in FMA. When he's talking normally he's okay, but when he yells or laughs it sounds like the voice actor is straining, and it doesn't sound like a real yell or laugh.

Ah! No, Mizuki, get away from my Naruto-babyninja! ...Actually his voice is okay. Why is it in dubs I always like supporting character voices better than main characters.

Oh god, WHY do they keep saying his name like that? It's too much emphasis on the syllables! ARGH! Stop it! It doesn't sound like natural pronunciation!

Okay, Iruka's voice actor sucks. Literally, his acting is bad. Naruto's VA isn't quite right but at least she's trying to act within the limitations of her performance. Mizuki's voice okay, but...

God I hate Iruka's voice. For once I'm glad he's a minor character. Skipped past his whole weepy monologue.

Third Hokage: "This is no good. Mizuki has a big mouth. He made Naruto feel so bad."

Dude, what the fuck is up with this script? I don't remember it being this lame. "made Naruto feel so bad"? What is this, pre-school? This show is aimed at 10-14 year olds, and by the time I was ten I was reading freakin' Michael Chricton.

OMG! Random ninja with Wolfwood's voice! ...damn. Why couldn't Wolfwood's VA have done Iruka?


Hm. Okay, end thoughts: Iruka's VA sucks, the script could be better. Naruto's VA is okay. The opening/ending credits are a disappointment.

Iruka's voice hurts me. I cried when he cried in the Japanese version--"It must have hurt you, Naruto, nah? You must have been lonely, nah?"--as if it were tearing his heart out. While in the English version he sounds vaguely regretful. NOOOOOO. *runs off to download the rest of the Naruto&Iruka arc*

Apparently I am more attached to Japanese!Naruto's "-ttebayooo!"s than I thought I was.

Even though the animation for that scene kind of makes me giggle, I was emotionally affected by that scene in the Japanese. It seemed so much more dramatic than in the dub.

I'm going to miss "Ano-sa, ano-sa..." Naruto's VA was so cute doing that all the time.

It's the funky suffix colloquialism thing Naruto does with many of his verb forms. I have no idea what it really signifies, but I think it's supposed to signify that he's trying to sound all Rough and Cool and Gangsta and instead just being squishy and cute. The only example I know: "Wakatta" ("I understand, I got it") becomes *annoyed Naruto voice* "Wakattebayo!" ("I got it already!!") Y'know?


Oh yeah! Ano-sa! Japanese!Naruto is so darling. Whatever I feel about the anime otherwise, I love the Japanese voice cast.

Heh. Hope you don't mind - random anime fan popping in.

Naruto's voice drove me insane. But personally, I hesitate to rant about it since I'm that way with nearly any anime I've seen both the sub and dub of. Particularly when I watch the Japanese version and then the English. Not only do the English VAs not sound right, many times they don't feel right to me either. The only anime in recent memory where I felt the English was just as good as the Japanese was Wolf's Rain.

I didn't catch this part. Was it really in the script? Honest to God, sometimes I wish they would just slap accurate subtitles on certain shows and release them that way. It would be less painful than having to listen to lines like those. :P

What's kind of amusing to me, is that Iruka's VA is the person who did the English voice for Issaru in Final Fantasy X and X-2. I didn't watch the dub, but someone else on my FL pointed that connection out, and thinking of Issaru's voice coming out of Iruka's mouth? Uh, NO. Totally and completely wrong.
