Blackpool, DT, Doctor who

I got to download a few episodes of the BBC miniseries "Blackpool" yesterday. I ended up getting them out of order, so I watched episode 1 and then 3. Actually, "watched" is an overstatement. I skipped past everything except the scenes with David Tennant, the next Doctor Who.
I came to the conclusion that all was well and good for the future Doctor Who episodes because DT was adorable as can be. His accent was not what I want the Doctor to have-- sounded a bit too young-- but he was still adorable overall. Very pretty-boyish, but in endearing way, not a snotty way. Like a puppy or something. And then there was a kissing/making-out/up against the wall scene, and I was thinking "this is going to be useful for inspiring Doctor/Rose fics" until...
... they started singing.
Yes, it's a musical. And because I'd previously skipped past any scenes that didn't have DT and entirely missed episode 2, the fact that it was a musical was complete news to me.
So they're singing while having sex.
And I finally have to turn it off because I can't. stop. snickering.
Then I turn it back on and fast forward some more, and there's this scene where DT's cop character and a bunch of others are coming up to arrest these two punk kids, and they all start singing and walking like zombies or something, and all I can think is that Sweet, the singing demon, must have got to them! I swear it looked just like a scene from Buffy's Once More With Feeling.
I'll watch the whole thing later I'm sure.

Date: 2005-10-05 09:39 am (UTC)The musical bit is what bothers me about "Blackpool", really. It's nice in concept, but the execution isn't working out that well. Sometimes the songs are pretty well integrated, but usually not, and there are *too few* songs to really sell the series as a musical.
