Summary: "...blah blah blah...Then a mysterious girl falls out of the sky and on to his ship and--"

Why do they always fall out of the sky? Why don't they ever rise up from the sea or break from the ground? You could write whole fics with the premise. The Curse of the Mary Sue: From Beneath You It Devours.

They don't always fall out of the sky. Sometimes they emerge from a vortex hidden in their bedroom closet. Duh.

A vortex hidden in their bedroom closet? ::sigh:: C. S. Lewis meets the Boogeyman's hiding place, and they use it for travelling to fanfiction. Is nothing sacred.

If they were going to use something like that, they could be original and fall through the bathtub or something.

I actually laughed out loud after reading that. I've been out of the fandom world for far too long.

XD I guess it would make the male characters give them the easy pick up line such as "did it hurt when you fell out of the sky?"

O_o or something. XD Love those always.

The weird thing is that it must originate from SOMEWHERE. And I mean not just fandom, because when I was little whippersnapper of about 11 years old and had never even HEARD of fanfic and was writing lousy Mary Sue fics for the comics I was into (and thought I was v. unique and possibly crazy for doing so), I used that convention myself. At least once, possibly twice. I can't say why though. *shrug*

ahh yes, the classic 'fell from the sky', another over used (in my opinion) is the being sucked into the television set. ive read far to many fics that started out promising and then the over used plots pick up. But some can actually be alright, even quiet good at times.
