Nov. 14th, 2005 07:58 pmThanks to the generosity and time of
mswyrr, I've been able to start watching the BBC miniseries Pride & Prejudice, the one from the 90s with Colin Firth.
A few days ago I was able to see the new movie (LOVE! LOVE!), so it's pretty cool to be able to compare them. (Never read the book. Yet.)
However, I have decided not to post commentary on the miniseries until I finish watching it (which will take a few days), as it would be wrong to pass judgement on the incomplete miniseries in comparison with a completed film.
However, I have begun to realize that my comments might be long, and gushy, and skip from point to point, and most of you probably won't care. I don't feel like writing it all out if that's the case.
So, a poll! Because any excuse will do for a poll. When I finish the miniseries, does my friends list want to read a long and gushy and spoilery comparison of the tv series and the film? Or would you like a much shorter version along the lines of "Well, did you like it?"

Date: 2005-11-15 06:46 am (UTC)I'll end up seeing it on DVD, I'm sure. Next film I'm gonna see in the theatres is Good Night, And Good Luck. Or Capote. Nope, not GOF. I can wait a while for that one. I'm just not as into HP as I used to be.

Date: 2005-11-15 06:58 am (UTC)GOF. While I want to see it on a big screen, my desire to go isn't as strong as most others on my FL. I'm kinda irked that they didn't do fancy robes but regular tuxes and dresses for the Yule Ball. Every time I see that shit in a commercial or promo pictures, I get pissed off.

Date: 2005-11-15 05:08 am (UTC)As for the book, I didn't really like it in high school, until someone pointed out to me that what Austen was writing was very well written and vaguely socially sardonic romance novels. This somehow made it all better.

Date: 2005-11-15 06:20 am (UTC)Usually I do gush freely, but this is one of those odd situations where I know that if I started to talk about it, I'd be talking about it a LOT. And I don't really feel the *need* to gush about it, I could just as easily keep it to myself. This is unusual because most of the time when I want to analyze things I want to tell everyone. Here I don't really want to waste the time telling everyone unless someone's going to be there to talk back to me about it, because getting feedback would be the goal of my writing my thoughts down. Under most other circumstances just writing my thoughts down is the goal in itself. Does that make sense?

Date: 2005-11-15 07:03 am (UTC)Perfect sense. Most of the time, I'm talking to myself with my posts. Eh, I don't mind. Gets it out there, and maybe someone else will get into it/decide they have an opinion later.
