Thanks to the generosity and time of [livejournal.com profile] mswyrr, I've been able to start watching the BBC miniseries Pride & Prejudice, the one from the 90s with Colin Firth.

A few days ago I was able to see the new movie (LOVE! LOVE!), so it's pretty cool to be able to compare them. (Never read the book. Yet.)

However, I have decided not to post commentary on the miniseries until I finish watching it (which will take a few days), as it would be wrong to pass judgement on the incomplete miniseries in comparison with a completed film.

However, I have begun to realize that my comments might be long, and gushy, and skip from point to point, and most of you probably won't care. I don't feel like writing it all out if that's the case.

So, a poll! Because any excuse will do for a poll. When I finish the miniseries, does my friends list want to read a long and gushy and spoilery comparison of the tv series and the film? Or would you like a much shorter version along the lines of "Well, did you like it?"

[Poll #612617]

I didn't become an English major because I was in love with Mr. Darcy, but it certainly helped. (And I didn't see the BBC miniseries until I was a first-year in college, so he was sweet sweet icing on the cake, but not the root cause.)

You should definitely see the movie. I challenge any woman to see the film and not fall in love with Mr. Darcy.

I might accept that challenge! :D

Yeah, but you might force yourself not to just to spite the norm! Go see it, but don't go trying to take the challenge. Just see it with an open mind, and if you don't come out just the littlest bit in love with him, well... more for me!

There are things I go into determined not to like ... but if they're as powerful as people say, I can't help it.

I'll end up seeing it on DVD, I'm sure. Next film I'm gonna see in the theatres is Good Night, And Good Luck. Or Capote. Nope, not GOF. I can wait a while for that one. I'm just not as into HP as I used to be.

I can wait until video for GOF. Unless I can convince my housemate who works at the theater to take me for free. That's what I'm hoping to do for Good Night And Good Luck, which I'd also really like to see.

What stinks about GNAGL and Capote is that I have to drive almost half an hour to get to a theatre playing them. Damn this stupid city and it's uncultured ways. I had to do that just to see Serenity. It was teh suck. The drive, not the movie.

GOF. While I want to see it on a big screen, my desire to go isn't as strong as most others on my FL. I'm kinda irked that they didn't do fancy robes but regular tuxes and dresses for the Yule Ball. Every time I see that shit in a commercial or promo pictures, I get pissed off.

I love the BBC miniseries to pieces, so I'm so glad someone sent it to you. (I taped it years ago when it was on PBS, but somehow didn't get the last part.) I really liked its Elizabeth, and mmm, Colin Firth. (Far better than the heinousness of a version we watched a bit of in high school English.) I'd like to see a comparison between it and the new movie, because my first reaction at seeing that there would be a P&P movie, was, "Why, why," even though I like the guy from MI5, because the BBC one was excellent. Of course most Americans can't be bothered to watch a six hour miniseries, but I thought it was just right for capturing the book.

As for the book, I didn't really like it in high school, until someone pointed out to me that what Austen was writing was very well written and vaguely socially sardonic romance novels. This somehow made it all better.

I picked "clicky box" because, while I ain't into the Austen thing, it's your LJ and you should gush and gush and gush about whatever you wish. It's just rude to say "Who cares about P&P?" when you obviously do, and I don't want to be a bitch to my friends. Everyone, sure. Heh heh.

Thank you.

Usually I do gush freely, but this is one of those odd situations where I know that if I started to talk about it, I'd be talking about it a LOT. And I don't really feel the *need* to gush about it, I could just as easily keep it to myself. This is unusual because most of the time when I want to analyze things I want to tell everyone. Here I don't really want to waste the time telling everyone unless someone's going to be there to talk back to me about it, because getting feedback would be the goal of my writing my thoughts down. Under most other circumstances just writing my thoughts down is the goal in itself. Does that make sense?

Perfect sense. Most of the time, I'm talking to myself with my posts. Eh, I don't mind. Gets it out there, and maybe someone else will get into it/decide they have an opinion later.
