timepiececlock: (Kyo - what's your point?)

Ahh... it's been a while since I'd seen anything by clamp. I'd forgotten how large the eyes and how pointy the chins are. It's reminding me of the Furuba style... but somehow not quite right.

I don't have many expectations for this series, I just want it to wipe my brain of the movie, which traumatized me back in my early otaku years. It's badness was...bad.

Hm... I'm switching back and forth from Japanese to English.

...Is that Stephen/David Blum's voice? Damn he gets a lot of work.

::keeps watching::

-Why are childhood friendships such a big thing in anime anyway? It's like if you played together when you were three, you're destined to meet again at age 16 and fall in love. I remember a boy I played with when I was three to six years old. I don't think I'd fall in love with him if I saw him now. That, or the person assumes they know the other person because they knew them as children: "This isn't like you." Who is the same at 16 as they are at 8?

-This rooftop thing reminds me of the end of episode 1 of Gundam Wing.

-the angsty dark-haired angryboy thing... there's surely a lot of it in anime. I take my angsty angryboys with orange hair and cat-ears, please! I save "dark-haired angsty" for men, not boys-- Roy Mustang, Nicholas Wolfwood, Dr. Tenma.

-ugh, another anime where the English dub speaks lines of dialogue that should be shouted or screamed. This is a weird dub thing I've NEVER understood. In practically everything except Dragonball Z it's like the actors are told not to raise their voices above a certain volume level. It's weird to see the character animated as screaming and what comes out is only a sort of grumbled voice at above-normal volume. Some of the dubs are getting better--- FMA has only messed this up a few times.

-is "Kamui" a name or a title?

-so far not a big Kamui fan. Though I guess being constantly on edge for fear of being attacked by demons and having weird witchy people spying in your head can't make one very cheerful.

-Sorata's in high school too? I thought he was like 25.

-this fight between the pimp and the gregarious guy is... the gayest conversation ever.

I like the looks of the anime-- the animation is good, and I like anything that's got occult imagery superimposed on an urban setting.

The pacing is slow, but not too bad.

How sweet. I'm impressed he's lasted this long. In kindergarten my boyfriend and I promised to marry, but we were separated by middle of first grade.

Kamui will annoy you for at least half the series.

Ah. Good to know there's a point where that stops.

Kamui is his name, which coincidentally (not!) translates to something significant to the plot. That is, it can mean either "a representative divine will" or "a hunter of divine will," which plays into the choice Kamui has to make between the Dragons of Heaven and the Dragons of Earth. The catch is that whichever meaning he chooses -- and it's not clear which side is which -- Fuuma is the other one. Hence, Fuuma is the "other Kamui."

Not that I've seen the anime, or anything. xp

I remember Fuma being his opposite in the movie (so long ago), so there's a few things I know already going into the story.

Thanks for the explanation about the name.
