Roy's coolest line in the series: "King Bradley, no matter how many times I must kill you, you will die!" ... Not in the dub. ::whimper::
MY FRAVORITE ALPHONSE LINE EVER! It's gone! When he claps his hands at Envy and says "That's dangerous." Badass Al! Where's my Badass Al!?!
..His monologue here was nice though.
Hawkeye! ...is not screaming. I guess they figured that actress could never pull off the soul-shatter-ness of the orignal Hawkeye and her SCREAMING SOB OF SOULMATE LOSS.
Once again, much love for Envy's dub voice. Ed's VA is doing nicely here too. Hm... I love how much older Ed looks in this episode. Ed in these last three episodes looks so different from Ed in the first season.
...They handled the Envy-Ed-Envy voice transition nicely...
Dante's last scene. Nice.
Ahhhh.... Ed standing there, transmutation circles over his whole body... still so awesome.
Hmm... they changed Scieszka's line from "It'll take Mustang a while to make a full recovery," to "It might be a while before General Mustang gets back to work." I think that gives the false impression that Roy still has his job. Sloppy.
OMG. The Roy/Riza scene is actually BETTER in English. Sexier. I fangirl
mustangactor! And then Hawkeye's response is note-perfect.
...
...They're actually talking in German! And...they all have German accents! Wow the movie's gonna be weird. Lots of German accents.
PONYTAIL!
Hm. They changed the Einstein line too... instead of "I don't trust him," it's "No one believes that guy." Again, changes the meaning of the statement.
Dude, throw-away reference to Freud? Random.
ARMS REACHING TO SKY! I love my boys.

Oh ... and I figure you're the best person to ask ...

Re: Oh ... and I figure you're the best person to ask ...
Date: 2006-03-19 09:10 am (UTC)Okay, so here's what I theorized:
Roy and Hughes knew each other as kids (yeah I'm such a sap) from the same town, and they grew up in a more rural area like the Elrics. I theorized that one of Roy's parents (I don't remember which) was a foreigner, which is why he doesn't look like the other totally white Amestris characters.
I had Roy as a very smart kid, about two or three grades above his age. Not Elric level genius, but very smart. In the RP game I was playing him as a 15 year old freshman at a university in Central, where he was studying alchemy (before he got pulled through dimensions and landed at CampFuckUDie).
I theorized that Roy got his state alchemist watch at 19 and fresh out of graduating (he was 22-23 in the Ishbalan flashback and 26 the year he met the Elrics), which made him one of the youngest in the administration's history (going by how appx. old Tucker was, and some of the other contestants in episode 6's exam), but not necessarily the youngest. I had the idea that he went straight from school to the military/war, and the military is the only career he's ever had, and one he's always wanted.
Playing his attitude was really hard, and frankly I sucked at it. I don't have the gift of RPing-- I'm not spontaneous enough. It was fun though. I had Mustang at 15 have all the arrogance in his own abilities, but less of the social gravitas. More like a science geek who loves knowledge and alchemy and also alcohol and partying. I figured that his ability to get people to follow him, to believe in him... that came with the war, and wasn't something he had as a kid. I pegged him as kind of selfish (or self-focused), but exceedingly loyal to his friends and so politically idealistic and naive that it's almost painful to look at. He's ambitious (to be a state alchemist so young, you have to be) and he knows he's smart, but he doesn't particularly hold grudges and gets along okay with most people, in a sort of distant/arrogant way (gets along best with Hughes). Not quite manipulative yet, because he hasn't learned how to read people properly, but the seeds are there. Doesn't get pissed off too easily, but when he does he lets it out in a bang. Definitely not as mature as Ed was at that age, but then few teens are.
I also theorized that Hughes was a law student, either before or after joining the military.

Date: 2006-03-19 09:20 am (UTC)EDIT: Oh, and I had him as a bookworm. The kind of person who'd read in a grocery store line, if you know what I mean. I really like the idea that all the alchemists, good and bad, are uncurable bookworms. They're all scholars and you have to love books to be a scholar. To get all the way to state alchemist you have to have that kind of obsessive personality, too.
