Testing out the possibilities of DWth crossposting.
I just spent an hour fiddling with my colors, on the middle of the three layout choices. This is probably to make up for the fact that I haven't changed my layout on LJ in a long time. I tend to favor brighter colors, I've noticed. Also, big fan of sea green colors.
ETA 1: Crossposting has failed, but I will try again later! =)
ETA 2: It seems to work if I check 'Manage Accounts' box but not if I check only the livejournal box. Hmm...
ETA 3: I just discovered that if I edit here, it sends the edit over to my LJ post, and overrides any changes I might make there so it will match here. I'll have to figure out how to balance that when I'm organizing different posts.

DWth account achieved!
Apr. 19th, 2009 01:25 amIn a moment of serendipity and extreme boredom this afternoon I began thinking up names for a DWth account, so I wouldn't be blank-minded when April 30th rolled around. I basically decided to try a new name, though I intend to still associate the name Rashaka with that journal, and to keep posting here. But I've had Rashaka since 2001...it's time to try something new.
Much to my delight, when I got home, I'd gotten an invite from the DWth staff! It's probably because I joined the mailing lists. If I get extra ones, I'll be sure to pass them on. After long deliberation, I went with this name:
It's a single word, it's nautical, it has the word 'star' in it, it's easy to remember, and it's not too complicated. I am still torn about some of my other names... 'coolbeans' would have been a truly fantastic fandom name. But, alas and alack, the sailor in me wins.
( Rejected DWth names! Pockets, Petrichor, Trundle, and Almond were close back-ups. )
If we know each other here on livejournal, you have a DWth account, or an openID, I'd love to subscribe to you over on DWth as well! I've already added some of you through my OpenID account, but unfortunately there doesn't look to be a way to combine my OpenID with my actual account yet.
Note: if you add me and your name is different than on LJ, please send me a comment or a message so I know where I know you from. =)

help an old woman across the street
Apr. 12th, 2009 10:33 amWhen the end of the month rolls around...
If anyone's looking for a person to give a Dreamwidth invite code to, I'm your woman. I did the OpenID thing and registered myself, but IRC has always eluded me in its alleged simplicity (I didn't even know it had anything to do with DWth) and I'm not entirely sure that I understand the whole invite-request process. I have DWth fail. Given how dependent I am on communities for fandom interaction, I don't foresee a mass migration of the Shaka from LJ on my own, but if the rest of you jump, I'll straddle the ship and the dock with you.
(thanks

Apr. 11th, 2009 11:26 pmI opened an OpenID on Dreamwidth and imported most of my bio from LJ.
Interests: "freedom truth justice reasonably priced love and a hard boiled egg" was too long for their 50-character limit on Interests, so I shortened it to "reasonably priced love and a hard boiled egg" instead.
I plan to grab a free account when DWth starts and double-post there and here. Sort of feel out the situation. Fandom and my wider circle of flist are entrenched in LJ, as am I, but this is a shine new thing to try and it's the first alternate LJ-style journal system I've been attracted to. I am hoping the purpose of openID is to secure usernames before they get snagged. I could think of a new one...but I've put so much work into Rashaka. I've been Rashaka for seven years.
Note- I think DWth is a simple abbreviation to discuss the site without confusing it with Doctor Who (DW), so that's what I'll be using from here on out. Make it a fad!
