You all need to catch up on Avatar: The Last Airbender right now. Because it's getting GREAT.

I just watched episode 2x17 "Lake Laogai" early, because even though it hasn't aired yet it is online at Turbonick [on the main front page hit "top rated"].

It's the best episode of season 2 so far. The best since "Seige of the North" at the end of season 1.

I can't believe how much this show has grown and improved in just 27 episodes. I adore the Ba Sing Se subplot and once again I love the overall continuity of all the character arcs and the parallels and the timeline of events.

My favorite line of the episode :

Zuko: "Out of my way, skinny!"

I also caught movie references for 2001: Space Oddysey and Silence of the Lambs... you can argue with me on the last one but I'm pretty confident on the 2001 ref.

I gushed a lot to [livejournal.com profile] akavertigo while I watching watching... except for the last 9 minutes, which I could only watch and stare at in uninterrupted glee. Non-spoilery, but here is an excerpt from our conversation. I'm posting it for posterity's sake, and to remind me not to make assumptions because you know what happens when you do.

[livejournal.com profile] rashaka: [Zuko] can't wear that hair as well as Jet, who has the longer face.
[livejournal.com profile] akavertigo: true
[livejournal.com profile] akavertigo: and Zuko's hair is finer so he'll never have that volume
[livejournal.com profile] rashaka: probably
[livejournal.com profile] akavertigo: ....are we talking about hair and volume?
[livejournal.com profile] rashaka: I was. you have a gutterbrain // [livejournal.com profile] akavertigo: we're going to talk about shoes next aren't we?
[livejournal.com profile] rashaka: oh, nevermind
[livejournal.com profile] akavertigo: ......
[livejournal.com profile] akavertigo: ......................
[livejournal.com profile] akavertigo: I'm laughing right now
[livejournal.com profile] rashaka: ...
[livejournal.com profile] rashaka: go suck dead eggs
[livejournal.com profile] akavertigo: and grinning
[livejournal.com profile] rashaka: mange-moi.

I liked it better, actually. That one was just a teaser for this one. I wouldn't say "brain-fucking"... because the only anime series to ever truly brainfuck me were FMA and Princess Tutu... but it's definitely stepped up and has way exceeded my expectations for this show. I keep being surprised that this series is on Nick.

I just can't believe that they showed...well, you know, with Jet, on a Nick show. They didn't even really try to hide it.

Hope the little kids aren't tramatized or anything.

It was actually very tastefully done, with no blood and only off-camera implications that he would die. The flashback to his parents' death fire was probably the scarier scene, with the face of the Rough Rhino and everything.

But this is the second time a significant minor "good" (of sorts) character has kicked the bucket, and this time he was killed as opposed to giving up his life in a flash of light. Considering most Nick shows don't have any death at all, it is surprising. And both of those characters were kids, not adults...

I think any kid over 8 would probably be fine watching this. I'd seen worse movies at 8. I wouldn't give it to a six year old, though.

Oh good lord!! Smilla practically woke me up to watch it and then the phone squeeing commenced... and is it just me but did Zuko get so unbeleivebely fiiiiiiine (Well finer... lol!) and Bruce Lee looking? And LONGSHOT's VOICE!!!!! *Swoon* Good grief, this show just keeps getting better!

Don't look up-- EVIL spoilers in the above comments!

YOu'll like your marathon, methinks. I've consistantly enjoyed season 2 more than season 1. The jokes are better, the minor plots are more sophisticated (still somewhat predictable character arcs-- like Zuko, for example), and I am continually pleased with the overall creativity of the show and the world its created.

OMIGOSH I THINK I LOVE YOU!!!

Don't be frightened by that declaration of adoration.

I know you have no idea who I am (I came across this post through a chain of links in posts and comments so we're kinda friends-of-friends-of-friends. I think.)

And, you probably won't be able to backtrack and find me through those posts because I have yet to comment on them because what was my plan to finally catch up on my flist and return all comments this weekend turned into a marathon of mainlining Avatar.

And furthermore, I was under the impression (since I'd never HEARD of it before Thursday) that the show followed the standard television season, meaning I had two full years and a few episodes of the third to catch up on.

So I wasn't pacing myself, and all of a sudden I finish The Last Days of Appa and look for a link to the next and with no warning I'm being told things like "the next episode won't air until November 3rd"!!!!

This is NOT. GOOD.

So, I did the only thing I COULD do - turned to YouTube fanvids and rereading the gushing showpimping posts that I only read out of idle curiosity and that got me into this situation in the first place.

And then I found a comment that mentioned you as a fanfic writer and I went "OOoo!" and came over to check it out - and THEN you tell me that I can SEE A NEW EPISODE RIGHT AWAY!!!!

And the paroxysms of love burst out of me.

And...I have totally freaked you out with scary stalker-esque behavior. I'm sorry. Just please understand that 48 hours (or so) ago, I was a normal person. Or at least, closer to normal. But, since that time, I've watched the entire series of Avatar and, well, you know what it's like to be on a new fandom high, right?

I'm glad you found it! And what an episode to cap your marathon.

you know what it's like to be on a new fandom high, right?

Oh yes. You should have seen me two years ago when I came back from Fanime Con twitching all over because I'd seen the first 15 episodes of Fullmetal Alchemist in a row at the con, starting at midnight. I was whacked out from that delicious combination of NEW FANDOM! and NO SLEEP! combined with excessive amounts of diet coke.
