[livejournal.com profile] akavertigo caved to my manipulative whining and finally watched all of Princess Tutu.

YES! ::dramatic fist in the air::

One more down, only five billion, nine hundred and ninety eight million to go! (and she totally ships the same ship, too...)

edit: In case anyone was interested, a long time ago I compiled a brief list of PT fic recommendations. I wish it were longer, but the actively creative fanbase for PT is quite small, unfortunately.

I can hear you smirking all the way here in MA. ::shakes fist:: You may have won this battle, but not the war!

Did you like Farscape?

Also, did you enjoy the vid?

I had an academic lecture on Farscape. True story. Aside from that, the two of us decided to avoid each other.

The vid, however, is awesome.

Know what I'd like? A PT vid done to a Vanessa Mae song.

love your icon.

Which one?

I've seen a few other good ones... one to "White Houses", by Vanessa Carlton that was an interesting take on the show, since the songs about first love/heartbreak, college dorm life, and losing your virginity. There's also a decent one to the Wainwright version of "Hallelujah".

Art of War - evil!Mythos

Sabre Dance - knight!Fakir & P.Kraehe (with plenty of Mythos because, duh.)

The Devil's Trill Sonata - Rue/Kraehe

Contradanza - Tutu (a good general song, but especially good for the fighting duo)

Romeo and Juliet - ...seriously, do you even have to ask? (ok, with this show I guess you do. Fakir & Ahiru)

I Will Always Love You - Rue & Mythos (with a little A/F on the side)

Classical Gas - General, with a chance for a lighthearted note.

Night Flight - Rue/Kraehe

My brief list for potential Tutu character song mix:

Mytho/Tutu - "Tender" by Blur

Ahiru/Fakir, season 1 - "Human" by the Pretenders

Ahiru/Fakir, season 2 - "I'll Fly Tonight" by Echo & the Bunnymen

Rue - "Doctors of Deliverance" by Crooked Fingers

Fakir - "Let Go" by Frou Frou ((I'm not sure why, but it works for me.))

All - Blue States - "Season Song" (the 28 Days Later soundtrack)

Ahiru & Rue - "Once Upon A December" (the soundtrack for Anastasia)

I have all these, if there's any that you've never heard before. I saw in a website listing a lot of the music from PT episodes that Chopin was used in several Ahiru/Fakir scenes-- I recognized one piece on my own because it also appeared in episode 51 of FMA (in the saddest two minutes of the whole freakin' show, with the exception of Nina's subplot.)

Some of those songs I've used in other stuff, because it happened to be on my playlist while writing fanfic.

Amend that to say "The Engine Driver" by the Decemberists is THE song for Fakir.

"The Engine Driver"

I'm an engine driver
On a long run, on a long run
Would I work beside her
She's a long one, such a long one

And if you don't love me let me go
And if you don't love me let me go

I'm a country lineman
On a high line, on a high line
So will be my grandson
There are powerlines in our bloodlines

And if you don't love me let me go
And if you don't love me let me go

And I am a writer, writer of fictions
I am the heart that you call home
And I've written pages upon pages
Trying to rid you from my bones
My bones
My bones

I'm a money lender
I have fortunes upon fortunes
Take my hand for tender
I am tortured, ever tortured

And if you don't love me let me go
And if you don't love me let me go

And I am a writer, writer of fictions
I am the heart that you call home
And I've written pages upon pages
Trying to rid you from my bones
I am a writer, I am all that you have home
Home
And I've written pages upon pages
Trying to rid you from my bones
My bones
My bones

(And if you don't love me let me go)

I loved the fact that the show's entire premise is basically "There is no greater evil than writers block," and "Swords don't kill, unfinished stories kill," and "Yes, fictional characters CAN be reincarnated."

I also loved that the show projects its own structure in such creative ways: the clocktower chimes have the images of the prince and princess and the knight and the swan, and the first half is the "happy" ending while the second half is the "glory" ending... gah I love it.

I know you said you don't care for discussion, so I'll stop now. But.... !!!!!! I'm happy you watched it. I want all anime fans to watch it. It's like in my top 5 favorite series.

I liked it...but I never did manage to quit snickering everytime someone said "Princess Tutu" with a serious face. Especially Fakir in the first 1/2. I'm only human!

I took a long time getting over that as a title. It still makes me shake my head, and feel a compulsive need to EXPLAIN when I recommend it to someone. It fits the story as a title should, but it's hard to say with a straight face. It was my choice last year for "Most Unfortunate Anime Title".

And I totaly get the weirdness and girlishness of some of the stuff, especially the ballet, and the names like Princess Tutu. It's *way* more shoujo than anything I've enjoyed since Sailor Moon. Usually I'm not a big shoujo fangirl, but I make a few exceptions.

It's not the word itself that gets me, it's the pronunciation. (And I have nothing except sincere, healthy fear for ballet.)

HA!
