Well, I didn't get hired at Abercrombie & Fitch. That's ok, I didn't really want to work there anyway. And I actuially mean that, you know.
Where I wanted to work: Hot Topic. And guess what! I have an inteview tomorrow morning! This is much of the good. I love that store-- punk music, skater clothes, gothic jewelry, and freak apparell. I thought I might not be scary enough to work there-- we'll see. I'll have to consider my wardrobe carefully.
The bad is it's a group interview. The same kind of group interview I apparently didn't pass with A&F. Oh well, I'll wow them. After all, someone has to give a freakin' job.
Fanfic
several things really, really annoy me in fanfic. As I previously mentioned, Giles having a split personality is one major peeve. Here's some more:
1. post-Grave fics in which Dawn take's Spike's side (in those conversations when he's not there to protest)and makes Buffy feel guilty for her bad in the relationship. Even if she likes him (which she did), Dawn would never side with Spike after he tried to rape her sister. She might forgive him, but she'd support Buffy. I think it'a awful because it excuses attempted rape, and softens or confuses a serious issue. This is so unrealistic it's not funny--and yet I'm always seeing it.
2. The fixation on Spike's tv-habits, and the constant need to have Passions references in EVERYFUCKINGTHING. It was only mentioned twice in the whole freakin' show, and not even in the last two years. We know he likes daytime tv, already. I don't need it shoved down my throat everytime I read fic. For all we know he could have stopped watching the damn show when Joyce died. The humor in reading it has long lost its appeal. Referecences like that, if made, should be subtle. And Spike must've watched hella tv-- try something besides soap operas next time.
3. Hot chocolate & marshmellows. see above for same reasoning. So. Fucking. Tired. of this in fics. Subtlety people! SUBTLETY!
4. Xander being called "Whelp". Ugly, ugly fanfic trend. Has no basis in canon, and furhtermore jsut sounds bad after the first three times. Spike calls Xander by his last name, by some reference to his job, or by the fact that he's Bufyf's hang-er-on "boy" or sidekick. He never freaking calls him whelp.
5. Willow being called "Red" by Spike. Yes, he's said it in the show... but it's been less times than I can count on one hand. He also calls her witch, and by her acutal name. Go for variety people.
That's all I can think of for now.... but the list is ever growing in the back of my mind. What about everyone else? Do these things bug you guys, or do you have different pet peeves?

Date: 2003-01-31 03:26 pm (UTC) I don't even know what "cor" means, except it seems to be said a lot when Spike's surprised, in awe of Buffy's smutty body, or rantingly upset. So not only is it overused, I can't even tell if its being overused ocrrectly or incorrectly.

Date: 2003-01-31 11:42 pm (UTC)From what i understand, it's from the British phrase "Cor Blimey" which means God Blind Me. So, i guess Spike is murmuring, "God..." or something. Whatever it is, annoys the hell out of me b/c Spike has never said that on the show. Also along the lines of an irritating piece of dialogue, i hate Willow saying "Oh Goddess". I think she's actually said that on screen once, or maybe twice. Just bugs me.
Oh, can i give you a couple more fic pet peeves?
I will anyway *g*
I HATE how these three Vampiric qualities that are almost always obsessed upon:
-body temperature
-breathing
-cold...erm..seed
My feeling is that if we are reading these fics, we KNOW what a vamp is. No need to constantly be reminded about the cold contrast of Spike's skin against Buffy's overwhelming heat, or that he was panting unneeded breaths, and damn, but if i'm reading a nice piece of smut, the moment they say he shot his dead, cold seed into her womb...bleech! Um, how is that sexy again? Vampire, check. Cannot produce life, has low body temp, and does not need to breathe. We know...
Oh! ANd blood tears! Very Anne Rice. Very annoying...
Hm. Maybe that was a bit much to put in a comment ::shrugs::
Ah, fanfic peeves
Date: 2003-02-04 04:24 am (UTC)Randomly surfing around Buffy community LJs and thought I'd make a quick comment. Just briefly, Sweet Ali is right - 'cor' is taken from 'Cor blimey.' It's not so much used to say 'God' though. It's expressing surprise, along the lines of 'Jeepers Creepers,''Wowza' or 'I'm flummoxed.'
As for fic peeves, after years of XF and Buffy fic reading, I have a lot. I won't get into those, but I will mention something that I find *seriously* annoying on fanfic.net; the people who don't think up a title for their fic (or ask a reader to supply one) or who say 'I'm not good at summaries but I promise this is worth reading.' Also, when the summary is posed as a question: "What if Buffy never died...? And what if Spike saved her...?" Give me a break! If you can't even be bothered writing a summary or thinking up a title for your fic, then why oh why have you posted it? Anyway, slightly OT, that's more a fanfic.net rant than a peeve about fic in general.
Also, I totally agree with your comments about Dawn siding with Spike. There was a big reaction to the attempted rape (quite rightly) in the Buffy community, but I always thought that its most disturbing manifestation was the stories written by young viewers who dealt with it by 'writing away' the severity of the attack. I mean, sure, it's just TV. But these were very young girls who would rather just set it aside on account of Spike's hotness, and that worries me in terms of the real world.
I'm babbling. Nice commenting to ya!

Re: Ah, fanfic peeves
Date: 2003-02-04 08:13 am (UTC)ah... Here's someone who shares my pain. That's a peeve for me too... frequently I don't even bother to follow the link and look at those types of fic. The only kind of writnt that I think can be excused for not having a title or much of a summary is poetry.
Re: Ah, fanfic peeves
Date: 2003-02-05 01:51 am (UTC)Nah, I don't look at them either. Sometimes I click on one to use it as a fanfic.net 'bookmark' though, so I can remember where I'm up to. So I may be giving some authors a happy by making them think I'm reading the fic. So selfless, I am ;-)
If I happen to be having a particularly peevy day I get all enraged about the ones that ask questions, and start asking the author's stupid questions of my own. Not out loud, of course, cos that'd be crazy.
