Respond to this post with a character or pairing, and I will reply with a song that reminds me of them.

if you ask nicely, I'll even upload the song for you.

I'll toss them all into a zip file. "You Know What They Do To Guys Like Us In Prison" is the closest to the mood that I associate with the new Bond... turmoil, rage, intensity, violence, and a little bit of craziness. Especially in Quantum of Solace, which I just saw last night.

Yes, I'm listening to it on YT right now and it's just. right.

It's also fairly slashy, as songs go, and you can't have a male character as oversexed as James Bond without playing with the homoerotic implications anyway.

Daniel Craig has actually said in interviews that he t
hinks his character has as little compunction about fucking men as part of his job (and perhaps as a pass time?) as he does about fucking women.

Which is cool, though I prefer Bond/M (and ship the two of them in a really twisted way?) to scenes of anything, even hot boy sex.

I don't ship Bond/M, but I do love their dynamic in the DC movies...her character has been upgraded to being more professional and badass, just like his. This M is not just an administrator, she's the woman who will look you in the eyes with no expression while with a twitch of her fingers she orders your assassination.

re: slash

I'm kind of thrilled to hear that he perceives his character that way, because I agree. I'm not thrilled by the idea of guysex, particularly, but I do like that more open and callous approach to his character, which just fits with the increased level of violence they've given him. While I personally take it as a given that he prefers women, I can just bet that if they said "This guy likes blond men, use him to get to the bad guy" then Bond would not even blink. I can see him as someone who tops--who does the "fucking"--with little care for the body below. He regularly uses sex as tool to do aspects of his job, or to stop someone from interfering with his job. That's something that also seems different from other Bonds, like Brosnan. I felt like previous Bonds acted slutty because they were slutty, and it was for entertainment. This Bond uses seduction to get information or to distract or to get compliance. Except for Vespa, as with her it seemed to be first about comfort and then about attraction and love.

I noticed the parallel imagery too, and was almost like "QUE? Did...did I just see thematically meaningful visual parallels IN A BOND MOVIE? And... for a ROMANCE subplot?"

The Mathis thing struck me, too. I liked how that was handled by the script and the actors. Poor Bond is turning into the tenth Doctor, getting his friends killed and losing the woman he loves and turning people into tools and weapons...

Er, nix all that! I just looked it up, and I was completely off base.

Mea culpa.

Well, even if it's not the case in the movies, that's totally how it is in my head, now.
