It really depresses me when I see a BtVS vid posted with a song that I've long wished to see put to video, only when I open the vid I find the vid-maker has used a cover version instead of the original. 'S down right sad.

Especially since 8 out of 10 cover versions of songs absolutely reek. Like, say, hearing 'Desperado' by a country singer, or a dance-mix version of great romantic ballads, or a dance mix version of 'American Pie', or 'Landslide' by a not-to-be-named-trio of blond female country singers who won't just shut up and go away. But, yeah, that's just my rant.

I kinda like Landslide, although it doesn't hold a candle to the original live version by Stevie N.

OTOH, the others you have mentioned should be buried beneath the concrete of the Initiative, never to be seen nor heard from again.

I've grown desensitized enough to where I can listen to it w/out having to instantly change the station. At least they didn't change the song much; its just the twang in their voices irritates me. And part of what I loved about the original was how SN's unique voice was so perfectly suited to it. Weirdly, there was a version of Landslide done a while ago by The Smashing Punpkins that I found I enjoyed nearly as much as the original. I think because Billy Corgan' voice is actually fairly similar in sound to SN's.

You know, reading your reply just gave me an idea. I can just watch the vid on mute, and at the same time listen to the original! Problem sorta solved.

hmmmm, Desperado to a country singer, that wouldn't have been Garth Broooks perchance?

I dunno. All male country singers sound alike to me. And most of the female ones. I'm really not the person to judge on identity.

Clint Black, actually (here or here), and it was quite a hit on country radio in its day (1993?). And I unabashedly like it and Black myself, as well as the aforementioned cover by the aforementioned blondes--but then, am Eeeevil, as has been mentioned.
