"Welcome to Moya."
Probably the one of truest things ever said on Farscape. The crew goes through the galaxy like a wrecking ball. They don't set out to kill, they only try to save themselves and each other. And yet, in doing so, they've for better or worse directly or indirectly altered the lives of thousands of others. Often, for worse.
God, I need to watch this episode when it comes on again at 12. Harvey's not just a figment; he's a bug! Or, he is a figment, and he's just bluffing to convince Crichton to save Scorpius.
I loved the mock-vampire thing that Harvey did. Though it was weird having to explain the show's portrayal of the strange workings of John's head to my mom, who hates this show.
The "We are as gods" (::snerk::) scene of last weeks Buffy reminded me a lot of Farscape. It was a waccky, absurd take on someone's fantasy. In fact, a lot of "Storyteller" reminded me of the whole Harvery/John element of FS. The trips into Crichton's mind have always been funny, bizarre, symbolic, and informative. And bizarre. But they're an interesting thing that is distinctly Farscape. I understood it when it was used to show us John's insanity, but I loved that they kept it as part of his character even after he became sane again. It's trippy, it's funny, and though you think it's stupid it usually ends up being very very smart.
God, I'm going to miss this show. When will the reruns begin on another channel, I ask?
Oh, and Aeryn's back! Aeryn's back! AERYN'S BACK! I love this ship.

Date: 2003-02-28 11:00 pm (UTC)It really is. And funny, but I'd never started to analyze FS until this season. Joining Buffy fandom has turned me into a constant analyzer of tv shows. Well, the ones that are worth analyzing. It's too bad you didn't start watching 5 episodes ago, when they landed back on Earth. That had be babbling like mad, it was so interesting.
Actually, you can probably look at the posts on my calendar every Friday night or Saturday morning for the past few weeks, and you'll see my FS responses. Some much longer than this, some wwere short.
And the insane thing has me interested.
Unfortunately, that is a period in the show where I learned more about it after the fact, because I missed a lot of episodes due to timing in RL. But it was cool. See, the thing you need to really need to know to understand anything is that John is the only person in the galaxy who has the scientific knowledge of how to create a wormhole for interstellar travel. And basically, that means the two major and evil powers in this galaxy-- Peacekeepers (Nazi-like aliens that look like humans--Aeryn used to be one (she's still alien thoguh), Crichton often pretends to be one), and the Scarrens (ugly ugly tall things you saw tonight; Scorpius is half of one and half PK)-- are trying to hunt him down for the power that wormhole technology will give them to take over everyone else.
John went insane when Scorpius captured him and tried to torture the knowledge from him, and instead gave him an implant that made him a) insane, and b) under mind control. The implant was eventually taken out, but it left a mental "shadow" of Scoporius' person in John's brain. This shadow manifests itself in John's thoughts as a Scorpius look-a-like, whom John has cutely named "Harvey", after the invisible six-foot rabbit.
The arc of Crichton going insane was very much about a "loss of innocence", and it left him jaded, no longer just an easy-going earth guy exploring and trying to survive, he's now been through stuff that's changed him entirely. It also introduced the villian/ally/villain Scoprius, and firmly and nicely established the over-arching plot of wormhole tech that has become the driving force in the show's storyline.

Date: 2003-02-28 11:22 pm (UTC)Oh, I know. My mom had me watch "Harvey" when I was about 13, and I thought it was really funny, for an old movie. One of my favorite Jimmy Stewart films. When I was watching FS and I realized he had started to call his delusion "Harvey" I almost fell off the couch. I thought it was hilarious. Unfortunately, there was no on around who I could tell about my sudden "I get it! I get it!" moment, so I had to bounce in my chair alone. And sinse I wasn't involved in FS fandom at the time (am still not really, except on LJ) I've always wondered if everyone who watches it gets that its a movie reference. Because it so is, and its so funny. But I keep wondering if there are people out there who think Harvey is just a random name that Crichton picked.
Ahh. Just what I need, a new fandom.
Ditto to that. Farscape is now on my list of "fandoms I intend to fully immerse myself in when I have money for DVD packs." X-Files, Highlander, and Angel are also on this list.
