The secret is out!
Apr. 3rd, 2003 03:44 pmI found out last weekend what the heck "five by five" means.
It's a radio term. When you measure clarity of transmission on a scale of 1-5, if you're coming in loud/clear you're coming in 5/5.
Hah. I feel all superior and "in-the-know"... but I had to share anwyay.

Date: 2003-04-03 04:16 pm (UTC)It's like saying "loud and clear." The first number signifies the volume, the second five signifies the clarity. So, "five by one" would mean it's loud enough, but the static dominates the signal.
Of course, if you already knew that -- slap me and call me annoying.
