timepiececlock: (the scientist)
So many things happened last night and today.

So, a while ago we lost home DSL. Then we got it back, but I didn't, because my dad & I got into a tiff and he said I could only have it if I could pay for half of it. ANd I couldn't.

So last night, 2 months later, I'm using his laptop and saving stuff on disk but the disk lost all my saved research material for a huge project (and finales next week) and was giving me a headache looking at the screen and other stuff too. I got so upset that I turned it all off and told him I'd try again later. He felt really sorry for me, so he gave me DSL back, for a while. And he wanted to cheer me up, so he showed me that he'd bought me The Animatrix, because he thought I'd been such a cool person lately. I was really touched (being super-emotional last night.)

I watched some of it this morning, and after I do this journal entry I'm going to go watch more. There's nine short stories.

Final Flight of the Osiris was awesome and sexy and sad.

The Second Renaissance Parts I & II were fantastic and sad.

Kid's Story was interesting, and both beautiful and ugly at the same time. A very energetic animation style.

So far, these stories capture much more of the tragedy of war than The Matrix. Death is a big theme... but so is wonder and perseverence. I haven't seen Reloaded yet, but I now have to soon.

The animation, in its varying styles, is fucking unbelievably cool.

I also watched the Extra segment about the history of Anime. It was mostly stuff I'd already known, being the true otaku that am, but a few stuff that I didn't, especially the detail about Astroboy.

This whole DVD is saying in plain speech, outright and in your face, what I've known from the first time I watched The Matrix: it's such an anime put to live action. The directoral style, the editing, the visual imagery and music and mise en scene of the film... it's live action anime made by anime/scifi fans.

EDIT: I finished watching Program. That's my favorite. Definitely.

Well, I'd have to say that Program and Beyond tie for my favorite of the short stories. But they're all excellent, and so different; it's difficult to judge them.

Final verdict:

Anyone who likes anime, likes film media, likes Sci-Fi stuff, likes the Matrix films, or just likes cool shit, should buy this DVD.

RENTON (voice-over): Choose life. Choose a job. Choose a career. Choose a family. Choose a big fucking television, choose washing machines, cars, compact disc players, and electrical tin openers.
Choose good health, low cholesterol, and dental insurance. Choose fixed-interest mortgage repayments. Choose a starter home. Choose your friends.
Choose leisurewear and matching luggage. Choose a three piece suit on hire purchase in a range of fucking fabrics. Choose DIY and wondering who the fuck you are on a Sunday morning. Choose sitting on that couch watching mind-numbing, spirit-crushing game shows, stuffing fucking junk food into your mouth. Choose rotting away at the end of it all, pissing your last in a miserable home, nothing more than an embarassment to the selfish, fucked-up brats you have spawned to replace yourself. Choose your future. Choose life.
But why would I want to do a thing like that?

I found an LJ community for Hellsing! Wheee.... [livejournal.com profile] hellsing. I'm hoping I can get icons and screencaps and fic from them.

And to celebrate the discovery... a quiz: What kind of vampire are you? )

I also found this and it's second page here from my school's anime club mailing list. It's a short comic that's sort of meta-fannish for anime fans and people curious about anime.

Now it's off to read Buffyfic. I've been slacking. I think it's a denial thing. The truth of The End is finally setting it, a month later.

Oh, and another Trainspotting quote, because I lurv that film:

RENTON: He's always been lacking in moral fibre.
SWANNEY: He knows a lot about Sean Connery.
RENTON: That's hardly a substitute.

Y'all should know... Eminem's Sing for the Moment *thing* vastly annoys me. He's taken one of my favorite older songs... and made me not like it. I resent that.

And I doubly resent the radio sation for playing it. The so-named alternative rock radio station. I've already called and yelled my frustration at them once for playing rap. I'm feeling the great desire to do so again. It's been a few months and my frustrations have built up to breakpoint again.

www.animemusicvideos.org is being bitchy. Half the vids I want to download aren't even downloadable. They time out or the page can't be reached.

And the FTP person that I'm downloading Witch Hunter Robin from is really slow.

Have overloading amount of homework I'm trying not to think about.

Going over to K's for the evening. Movie time! She got The Animatrix DVD too. I'm going to bully her into watching it after Spirited Away.

Found out also that K is still reading my journal sometimes. Like today. Hello K! say hello in a comment or something, why don't ya.

Hm... have to be careful to say only nice things now... ;)

EDIT: I was rewatching the Program episode of Animatrix and it struck me how much one of the final scenes of fighting in that episode reminded me of the Buffy-Angel fight in BTVS's Becoming episode. Anyone else think so?

So I'm alternating between cooking, reading, and watching "Making of" sequences from Animatrix.

They bring in a lot of producers/writers/animators etc to comment on the "Making of" stuff. One of the commntators interviewd is the guy who created the American comic Spawn and founded MacFarlane Toys (they made my Vash doll!).

And fuck, he's HOT. Good looking and rich and into comics and anime. Me likes.
