The reason I feel this way is probably that I make crap icons but no one's told me yet...

I was reading some of the comments on someone's journal and thinking about quality icon standards.

Do I have standards for good icons?

Yeah. I think so. Well, I have.... one.

Because honestly; everything else is taste, taste, taste. Beyond that one standard, I really have no opinion about the matter at all. But I celebrate people who have many standards. Go you. You are much cooler than me. So go, go make me beautiful icons! :)

Well I've found my Champion...

Buffy talks a lot in Season 7 about the fact that Spike has a soul. Of course it matters to her. It is everything to her, because she is the one who lost Angel his soul. That is who she is. That is what she is worth. She is the destruction of what is good and the end of hope, and she can save the world a thousand times but that will still hang over her. Until now. Because suddenly this is how much she is worth – she is worth a soul. She is worth a vampire going out and getting a soul for her, all for her, and yes, it matters to her. She is the Slayer and she can do anything and everything but she cannot earn back that soul, that damn soul that was lost at her hands and regained only for her to destroy it again, sending it to straight to Hell. But this time, this vampire takes it out of her hands. She cannot earn back that soul but he can. And what Buffy is only just starting to understand is what he can do for her is as much hers as what she can do for herself, that this gift of a soul is part of who is, and that who she is, and who they are.

Naruto

So far, actual canon says the following:

Hinata has a crush on Naruto; Naruto has a crush on Sakura; Sakura has a crush on Sasuke; and Sasuke doesn't have a crush on anyone, and isn't likely to any time soon.

Well, I've only seen 13 episodes, but I spent several hours today looking at fanfic. And I've figured out this: Most fanfic is yaoi/slash: Naruto & Sasuke. Het ships are less common, but they typically run Sasuke & Sakura, and Naruto & Hinata.

Which is a bitch, because that means there's barely any Naruto/Sakura, and I have already, though I tried not to, developed a bias for that ship in my head. Because I want Naruto to be happy, and that means Sakura, and I want Sakura to be happy, and I really think she'd be happiest with Naruto--- mostly because every time they show the "inner Sakura" raging, she behaves just like Naruto does. She's a lot like him--- she just is better at faking it.

Of course, it would be typical that in my new beloved series my pairing would be scarce and hard to find, even if it has as legitimate a claim to canon as the other ships.

The best news is, however, that I don't really think about ships at all when I'm actually watching it.

Naruto again... It's like what DBZ could have been, if only DBZ was written better & drawn prettier!

The blood! The death and destruction and meoldramatic ninja oaths made while possibly dying!
