So far, actual canon says the following:
Hinata has a crush on Naruto; Naruto has a crush on Sakura; Sakura has a crush on Sasuke; and Sasuke doesn't have a crush on anyone, and isn't likely to any time soon.
Well, I've only seen 13 episodes, but I spent several hours today looking at fanfic. And I've figured out this: Most fanfic is yaoi/slash: Naruto & Sasuke. Het ships are less common, but they typically run Sasuke & Sakura, and Naruto & Hinata.
Which is a bitch, because that means there's barely any Naruto/Sakura, and I have already, though I tried not to, developed a bias for that ship in my head. Because I want Naruto to be happy, and that means Sakura, and I want Sakura to be happy, and I really think she'd be happiest with Naruto--- mostly because every time they show the "inner Sakura" raging, she behaves just like Naruto does. She's a lot like him--- she just is better at faking it.
Of course, it would be typical that in my new beloved series my pairing would be scarce and hard to find, even if it has as legitimate a claim to canon as the other ships.
The best news is, however, that I don't really think about ships at all when I'm actually watching it.

But...I just can't help it, after watching shows, I think about it and assess it and just bah!

Heh, admittedly, I'm a Naruto/Sasuke fan. But I don't mind het ships in this anime as much as I mind het ships in other fandom (with the exception of Inuyasha). But yeah, I like Naruto/Sakura...kinda interesting...

Date: 2004-02-07 11:49 am (UTC)Because I attach to canon pairings, I can't get into most yaoi/slash pairings, in fandoms like Naruto anyway where such relationships are AU by nature.
I do sometimes read 3x4 pairing for Gundam Wing, because the canon for that show regarding Quatre and Trowa is so complicated and hard to define and deliberately obtuse that I can honestly say I have no idea if the characters in question are straight or bi or gay. That unique show, and situations where the character are homosexual in canon, that's where I usually will read yaoi or yuri or slash. Well, parody doesn't count because that works in every fandom that exists.
I'm curious though... what yaoi pairings do you ship for IY? There's none of the guys on that show that I would ship together anyway because of their personalities... except may Kouga/IY if you want a love/hate thing.

Date: 2004-02-07 09:21 pm (UTC)There's your answer. ^^ But I dare not write one...well not yet anyways. My goal in that section is to write all the pairings possible - which includes crossovers. At the moment, I'm working on a Inuyasha/Yu Yu Hakusho one since they've got alot of similar ideas - involving demons, spirits and all. My next set of pairings (in order)... is a Miroku/Kagome, then Inuyasha/Kagome, Naraku/Kagome, Sango/Miroku and Sango/Inuyasha. I'm not quite sure if I'm up to par in writing shounen-ai pairings...yet. I do love reading them, I just haven't had the heart to writing one. Eventually, I will write one though...I will! (in a million years >_<).
