I rented Punch Drunk Love.

I stopped about 2/3 of the way through it out of boredom. I should have rented Adaptation.

Anyone really like Punch Drunk Love?

I liked the camera moves and how it wasn't the typical Adam Sandler movie. I did get bored with it but I have the attention span of a knat.

I also like the directorial style of it. And I think Adam Sandler's doing a very nice job-- as is the woman opposite him. But it's all very slow and paced, a little too slow for me.

Does that mean it's good or it's to fast to read?

It's good. Very good. Print's a little small, but I think it's the sort of thing that should deliberately be finite and annoying, just to get the point across.

But is it boring? I dig weird. I can't always dig boring.

Punch Drunk Love did nothing for me, and I liked Magnolia and stuff. But there's no character development on PDL, and character development is my secret crack, so...

Adaptation has some problems, but it's certainly not boring, and Chris Cooper's performance is amazing.

I'm getting a "nothing" feeling off PDL as well. And every time I think I like the main character, he has a fit of violence and rips doors off bathroom stalls and kicks in glass windows. Which makes me kinda freaked about him.

I looooooved PDL. I found I just felt for the main character so much...I NEEDED him to tell his sisters to shut the fuck up, and to win the girland to beat the bullies and to triumph over the whore and her pimp. You should have watched the end, there's a scene where he fights the bullies....and he confronts the pimp...omg. Wow. I was on the edge of my seat.

Hi!

I'm new to LJ. just passing through & wanted to add my 2 cents about PDL. I was ranting about it just a few days ago in my LJ.
It's a strange film isn't it? It's cathartic to see this extremely tamped down individual start to own up to and own his own anger. On the other hand, I found the whole thing a rather unpleasant exercise. To make matters worse, my DVD player couldn't handle the 6.1 Dolby encoding, so the already over-the-top funhouse soundtrack was BLARING over all of the dialogue. Ugh.
So yeah, I can't say I'd recommend it.
Give Adaptation a try.
Oh, and isn't Netflix the best thing EVER?!

I actually got PDL from local Hollywood Video chain, and have been using Netflix for anime rentals. But yes, it's the Best. Thing. Ever.
