Probably because we simply got to see more of Fred & George so we got to know their characters better and with McGonagall, well we actually got to see her show some emotion, which mostly she doesn't in the other books. She gives out detentions and is stern and strict, but not much emotion-but in this book she takes Harry's side, if not actively, shows concern about Umbridge, frustration with the MoM, etc. Anyway... she did become much cooler. ;)
