[livejournal.com profile] octopedingenue pointed me to this: The Geek Hierarchy

I can't tell you how much this amused me.

If you follow it down, it tracks "these" geeks who consider themselves less geeky than "those" geeks, by fan-subject matter.

It has a special place for Mythology fans, Comic fans, Anime fans, Video Gamers, Heinlein fans, amateur Sci/Fi writers, amateur Sci/Fi artists, and Sci/Fi Television fans. And each of those have their sub-categories.

Hilarious.

Oh, and it's so true. Of course, it's really fun when you find yourself in multiple categories. I'm a comic fan who's also been Ren Fair folk (recovering) who is also a Sci/Fi Television fan who is also a fan fic writer who doesn't quite qualify for "amateur" because I can wave genuine rejection notices in people's faces...and I've been known to be on committees for conventions and I'm also a costumer.

God, I love cross-pollination.

cross-pollination.

I'm an anime fan who doesn't care about subtitles, a part-time video-gamer (though it's more like one or two video games only), a Piers Anthony fan, someone who reads books based on TV (damn Buffy, and they're not even good books... XF too I guess), an amateur writer, a fic writer, an erotic fanfic writer, an amateur SciFi/fnatasy artist who can't get breasts right, and a TV SciFi fan.

And I admit that I would definitely by some of the Lord of the Rings mail-order swords if I could afford it.
