Aug. 29th, 2003 11:42 pmI was reading Spin magazine today at the grocery store (which I weirdly visited 3 times in less than 12 hours), and a lengthy article on The Dashboard Confessionals labeled them an "emo" band. What is emo, as a music genre?

Date: 2003-08-30 01:11 am (UTC)if a punkish band guy sings lots of songs about the girl who dumped him and how sad he is, he is generally lumped into the category of "emo."
a lot of punks dis emo since they consider it "whiney." it's often a bit poppier than much other punk stuff.
emo is basically more focused on emotion than on anger or politics.
some sorta emo bands i can think of are:
-cursive
-dashboard confessional
-and you will know us by the trail of the dead
-jimmy eat world
-mineral
-bright eyes
does that help at all?

Date: 2003-08-30 06:57 am (UTC)It's all Rancid and NOFX fault really, without them there would be no Good Charlotte and New found Glory. The worst freaking emo bands ever, their songs are just so grating to listen to. But then again I shouldn't talk, I listen to heavy metal, which most people find off putting and headache inducing.
