I don't currently have voice mail. I think I should set it up for my cell phone. Here's what I'm thinking I might say:

"If you've called for Sara, welcome! If you have not, my condolences. Chances are that I didn't pick up the phone because I'm sleeping, working, or otherwise spending my hours killing the Uruk-Hai that roam freely about San Jose. If you do not leave your name, number, and general purpose after the beeping noise, know that you have elected the way of pain." .beeping noise.

Hee! Can I slightly modify that and use it on my voicemail? It's so much better than my current message.

Sure! What's your version? ::curious::

I actually got the idea from my local radio station. One of their commercials say something like "blahblah we have good music blah blah and spend our nights killing the zombies that roam freely about Sunnyvale."

I'm positive it's a shout-out to Buffy, because they say Sunnyvale when the station is actually based more in San Jose (though they're right next to each other and it's hard to know where the edges are.) But I loved it, so I thought I'd adopt it for myself. I don't think my parents would allow that on our home machine, though. :)

Oh, I thought I had more room for a comment in "other". I was wrong, so here is my "why":

I think it's too long, unless you have the kind of system that allows you to say something like "If you know the drill, press 1" and then it cuts directly to the beep for the leaving of a message. Because don't forget your friends are going to continue to hear the greeting every time they call. You could delete (or modify) "Chances are that I didn't pick up the phone because", and maybe change the last line to "If you do not leave the usual information after the beep, know that you have elected the way of pain."

Or maybe "Leave the usual information after the beep, or embrace the pain."

I'm am totally blathering. I need sleep. Did I mention that you are a very funny and insidious Moon Princess?

Away I go to embrace the zzzzzs.

"Leave the usual information after the beep, or embrace the pain."

I like "usual info," but the rest of it loses my LOTR quotage. I tought about it beng too long.

Maybe this is better...

"If you've called for Sara, welcome! If not, my condolences. I didn't pick up the phone because I'm sleeping, working, or otherwise spending my hours killing the Uruk-Hai that roam freely about San Jose.Leave the usual info after the noise, or know that you have elected the way of pain."

I've also been considering changing it to Nazgul, rather than Uruk-Hai, but can't decide.

Now that's fun. I'll vote for Nazgul because it sounds scarier and won't be confused with Iroquois.

::blink:: Well, I would never have thought of it being confused with killing Iroquois, but maybe you're right. I was thinking Uruk-Hai might be better known, but Nazgul sounds good as two syllables. Should i say "slaying" ?
