Ah. This was the episode with the pyschic fear-inducing guy, and the homeless population.

I remember feeling really, really bad for Sakaki in this episode. First the guy he follows goes insane runs right in front of a truck, then another person tries to do the same thing, and then finally the same thing almost happens to him himself. Poor guy.

The characters always retain a kind of distanced feel all the way to the end of the series. And yet, we actually get to know quite a lot about Robin-- she's a neatfreak, drinks cappacino, sleeps in the nude, has a curious nature, is very religious, and takes enough pride in her work that Amon's professional criticisms and dismissals rankle her. And yet, I never feel close to her while watching the show. It's just part of the mood of the series that you get used to-- it's very plot driven.

Amon's hiding a lot of things. Some of the things I could predict, some of them I was surprised about. The fun kind of surprises.

I'm glad you're starting to catch up on Naruto!

Inside, I keep on hoping for Naruto/Sakura, but I'm pretty sure it's gonna be Naruto and the quiet girl (can't remember her name).

I thinks so too. I prefer Sakura/Naruto, because Inner Sakura is so much like Naruto, and it seems like she's always trying too hard to be this person that she isn't when she's around Sasuke, whereas it seems like she could loosen up around Naruto and be herself. Also, I was kinda taken by the two of them when Naruto approaches her in episode 3 disguised as Sasuke, and blurts out the exact words Sakura wanted to hear.

I think Hinata's alright, but of all the characters presented in the series so far, she is the most uninteresting to me, the most "type" character. Or stock character, maybe is the term. Anyway, I can't help but think that Naruto/Hinata would be boring. Sasuke/Hinata, however... that would be interesting. She would have to come out of her shell to win him just as much as she would have to to win Naruto, but it would be more... interesting. I think she would have a more intimate understanding of and ability to relate to Sasuke's angst than Sakura ever could.

The ep where Sakura cuts her hair off with her kunai, I totally saw Naruto in that scene. I really don't think Sasuke would do something that blatant, instead of thinking of a way out. But, Sakura was just like Naruto during that scene, especially when she's holding on for dear life while the Sound Ninja (don't remember the village) is pummeling her with punches. I've been hearing that the show actually progresses with everyone growing up so maybe when Naruto and Sakura get to their late teens, she'll be able to finally admit that Naruto's the one for her and Sasuke is just a crush.

Sasuke/Hinata, however... that would be interesting.

Really don't know that much about Hinata, so I can't comment. But, if you're going by personality types, I could see it happening. However, as of right now, Hinata is just another student. Nothing special.

Only about 4 or 5 months have passed, I think, by the time you get to ep 71, where I am, and already they've grown up a lot. The manga goes much farther in the translated english version, though I haven't read that.

Hmm, that's weird. Because I've read that there's a turning point somewhere down the line where they're gonna essentially start with a time gap between now and when they're older. I just assumed it had happened already since this information's been on a few Naruto forums. Oh well.

ok, I should be more clear. Grown up a lot in terms of maturity, not physically-- as I said, it's only been around 4 or 5 months as I can tell. They're definitely growing up faster than they are aging.

I hadn't heard about a time gap... that's interesting. It would leave room for a lot of fic. That might have happened in the manga, but I'm unspoiled for the manga, and it hasn't yet happened in the anime. The anime just started on a conflict/ story arc that I estimate (juding by the pacing of the show so far) will last at least another 15 episodes, maybe more.
