::watches Witch Hunter Robin::
Feb. 24th, 2004 12:30 amAh. This was the episode with the pyschic fear-inducing guy, and the homeless population.
I remember feeling really, really bad for Sakaki in this episode. First the guy he follows goes insane runs right in front of a truck, then another person tries to do the same thing, and then finally the same thing almost happens to him himself. Poor guy.

Date: 2004-02-24 07:01 am (UTC)By the by, I'm up to ep. 32 in Naruto. Gotta say I am totally digging this show now. Inside, I keep on hoping for Naruto/Sakura, but I'm pretty sure it's gonna be Naruto and the quiet girl (can't remember her name). Also, what's up with having people more intriguing than Naruto? Right now, I'd have to say interest-wise, the characters I look forward to are
Sasuke
Lee
Naruto
Sakura
Ochimaru (sp?)
What's up with that? I'm more interested in Sasuke and Lee than Naruto? Egads!!!

Date: 2004-02-24 12:59 pm (UTC)Amon's hiding a lot of things. Some of the things I could predict, some of them I was surprised about. The fun kind of surprises.
I'm glad you're starting to catch up on Naruto!

I thinks so too. I prefer Sakura/Naruto, because Inner Sakura is so much like Naruto, and it seems like she's always trying too hard to be this person that she isn't when she's around Sasuke, whereas it seems like she could loosen up around Naruto and be herself. Also, I was kinda taken by the two of them when Naruto approaches her in episode 3 disguised as Sasuke, and blurts out the exact words Sakura wanted to hear.
I think Hinata's alright, but of all the characters presented in the series so far, she is the most uninteresting to me, the most "type" character. Or stock character, maybe is the term. Anyway, I can't help but think that Naruto/Hinata would be boring. Sasuke/Hinata, however... that would be interesting. She would have to come out of her shell to win him just as much as she would have to to win Naruto, but it would be more... interesting. I think she would have a more intimate understanding of and ability to relate to Sasuke's angst than Sakura ever could.

Lee grows on you. He's... he's a very lovable character, despite being annoying. You just gotta respect him.
I can't believe you're more interested by Sasuke, though! It took me all the way until the preliminaries for the final chunnin exam, something that's about 6-8 episodes from where you are, to even kindle an active interest in Sasuke beyond wanting the plot to go forward. For the whole first season Sasuke's role was one I've seen in a hundred other anime series up until now... silent dark-haired brooding bishounen with a death wish on himself and other people, who is rude, insolent, selfish, and cold. He's an Angry Young Man. Blah blah bladdy blah. You're looking at the person who sat through five seasons of SM watching Tuxedo Mask brood, through another however many seasons of DBZ watching Vegeta brood, through a season of watching Van Fanel brood, and two seasons of watching Heero Yuy and Wufei Change of GW brood... the angry young man is very familiar.
However, he gets cooler once Orochimaru starts to get involved. And Kakashi. ::claps:: OOoohhh... I can't wait until you see even more! I'm on number 71.
Also, what I do like about Sasuke and indeed the entire series of Naruto is that while the children have so many problems, like Sasuke being filled with anger and hate, and Naruto being filled with anger that he has learned to funnel into ambition, and Rock Lee and Neji and Hinata and basically every other damn kid in their ninja school... for that the children have angst, they still act like children thier age. Sasuke's made a sort of friendship with Naruto and Sakura even though he didn't want to...because for all his anger, he's still just a boy. And all the adults act like adults, too. Sometime anime shows tend to blur that line...adult characters act like children or young teens act like and are treated like adults...that never seems quite believable to me. In Naruto it's very clear: the kids of the village and the adults of the village live in entirely separate worlds. Even though they are involved in life and death ninja battles, and Kakashi nominated them for the Chuunin exams and scolded Iruka for treating them like children... nevertheless it's very clear in the series who the kids are and who the adults are. And the dynamics around that are playing out very interestingly to me.
Gotta say I am totally digging this show now.
I knew you would. It's just so fun to watch, isn't it?
The characters that interest me the most right now:
Naruto
Kakashi
Kabuto
Sakura
Shikamaru
Ino
Sasuke
Gaara

Date: 2004-02-24 01:49 pm (UTC)Honestly, it's the Sharingan he's got coupled with this revenge angle for his brother that has me wanting more Sasuke. It really didn't click for me until Naruto saves him from Orochimaru and throws the scaredy cat line back into his face that I realized that Sasuke wasn't the stereotypical quiet badass. He's just a kid. And, as tough as he acts, he's got to grow up just the same as Naruto, making the relationship between them even better than it was before. Instead of just being rivals, they seem to be building a brotherly bond with one protecting the other.
And Kakashi. ::claps:: OOoohhh... I can't wait until you see even more!
Yeah, I'm waiting for more badass Kakashi. Loved the stuff between him and Zabuza, and him telling Zabuza that he'd be able to join Haku in the afterlife, making Kakashi more than just a ninja if you go by his definition. He feels for his students and his opponents. And, frankly, I'm really curious about that book he keeps on reading.
Will definitely check out that link you sent me. Because, as much a fan of Farscape vids, I like to change it up once in a while. Also, forgot to add Gaara to my list of interesting characters. I know there's got to be something with him later down the line. He's just too cool looking to waste to just the first exam and that eye thing.

Date: 2004-02-24 02:34 pm (UTC)The ep where Sakura cuts her hair off with her kunai, I totally saw Naruto in that scene. I really don't think Sasuke would do something that blatant, instead of thinking of a way out. But, Sakura was just like Naruto during that scene, especially when she's holding on for dear life while the Sound Ninja (don't remember the village) is pummeling her with punches. I've been hearing that the show actually progresses with everyone growing up so maybe when Naruto and Sakura get to their late teens, she'll be able to finally admit that Naruto's the one for her and Sasuke is just a crush.
Sasuke/Hinata, however... that would be interesting.
Really don't know that much about Hinata, so I can't comment. But, if you're going by personality types, I could see it happening. However, as of right now, Hinata is just another student. Nothing special.

Date: 2004-02-24 03:38 pm (UTC)I love that scene. That was one of my favorite scenes in the anime to date. And I agree... it's why around this time period in the second season I finally started liking Sasuke, because his tough shell crumbles and you realize, "Oh, he really is only 12 years old."
I loved the angst when Naruto thought he was a fake... because although he didn't like him, Naruto had so much faith in this strong person/rival that he believed Sasuke to be. And then reality hits. And it made me sad. Adn it make Sasuke ashamed for the first time.
The snake-stopping thing was very cool though. Very kick-as imagery. I just loved the way that whole fight looked visually...Sasuke collapsing... Naruto pinned to the tree unconscious was a pretty potent image too. These kids are so strong... and yet they're just taken out like ...children. I was really feeling for Sakura there too. She does some growing up.
And, frankly, I'm really curious about that book he keeps on reading.
::laugh:: The porn book! Actually, there is a bit more information about that later. Can't tell.
He's just too cool looking to waste to just the first exam and that eye thing.
I like his ratty short red hair and his evil eyeliner.

Date: 2004-02-25 12:06 pm (UTC)Oh, is that what that is? I remember there being a title for it when he's battling Naruto for the first time and inflicts the 1000 Years of Pain on him, but I really thought it was a book. Oh well. Wait. More information later about porn? This series rocks!!! :)

Date: 2004-02-25 12:09 pm (UTC)Hmm, that's weird. Because I've read that there's a turning point somewhere down the line where they're gonna essentially start with a time gap between now and when they're older. I just assumed it had happened already since this information's been on a few Naruto forums. Oh well.

Date: 2004-02-25 03:14 pm (UTC)I hadn't heard about a time gap... that's interesting. It would leave room for a lot of fic. That might have happened in the manga, but I'm unspoiled for the manga, and it hasn't yet happened in the anime. The anime just started on a conflict/ story arc that I estimate (juding by the pacing of the show so far) will last at least another 15 episodes, maybe more.
