Why is my computer suddenly not recognizing that I have a CD-Rom and DVD-Rom?

How am I supposed to watch more FullMetal Alchemist without a DVD-Rom?

I had that problem. It is a pain.
Do you have windows? If you lately uninstall any video/audio related program, you could have a problem with the register. Try to check in troubleshooting(hardware) and see what error it gives. I google the code and found out some forums and they all say the same. You have to delete things in the register. Which is a very delicate thing. So bad I didn't keep the info, because it could have simplify your search.

Good luck!

I have XP, but it should be similar in others. In Control Panel, there is an icon called Printers and Hardware. In there I have at the left troubleshooting. It gives you options and I will do this first, in case that the answer is simple.

To check the type of error directly, do a search in your computer for Device Manager (I never know where to find it, it should be in the control panel). Click in the devices for cd and dvd drives and double click on them (right click I think) to check properties. The error should show there. The error I had was code 19, but I know there is another one.

I am not an expert and it took me a month to figure it out the first time. I hope its faster for you.

I have XP, but mine says "Printers and Faxes". There's an "Add Hardware" button but that didn't help me.

I clicked System in Control Panel and got a properties-like box that has Hardware as a tab at the top, and within that, device manager.

Which is all of a sudden showing my CDRoms whereas before it wasn't. Weird. I don't think I changed anything.

Thanks for your suggestions.
