I officially love this manga.

I'm not really into the gorey stuff, but the detail in the art is nice and the characters are wonderful. I love Rin and Manji and their constant back and forth friendship bickering. I love the way they have a relationship that's kind of sibling like and yet kinda not. It has all the comfort level and safety of a sibling relationship, yet has the potential for more. However, I can't say if there ever were to be more that I'd want it to happen any time soon. I like them with their relationship just the way it is, right now.

Every time I think Manji is a more interesting character, Rin surprises me and makes me like her more. Every time I think Rin is more interesting, Manji does/says something to make me like him more.

The whole thing is kinda like Samurai Champloo meets Kill Bill. Except I don't get frustrated with it the way I got frustrated with 2/3 of SC.

So far the side character of the ninja artist is my favorite. I love how he was trying to figure out his painting while there was a huge battle going on in his backyard. The overheard side-comments of Rin and Manji mid-fight in that whole scene were hilarious.

O-maki is turning out to be pretty interesting too, though.

[livejournal.com profile] octopedingenue, you were right-- Manji does look like Iruka. Like a mildly crazed, very harsh-spoken Iruka.

I need a few icons, but I feel too lazy to make them myself.

I keep being surprised by how amusing it can be. I really didn't expect that.

When I first started reading it, I didn't expect it to be funny, either. The amount of violence and the art style (which is beautiful, but very serious compared to a lot of manga) made me expect a lot of seriousness and angst. Which, you know, there IS, but there's amusing stuff, too. It keeps a good balance, which makes me happy.
