This afternoon I made 8 different animated icons in various colors and crop-positions.

Now, I have no idea what to do for text.

Suggestions? Vague or specific? Requests?

Quotes? Lyrics? Words? Shakespeare?

I think the dark blue one would look good with the line "I really wish I got to say goodbye" on it.

How did you make all of them? They're so clear!

I combine all the frames I want as layers of a psd. file for Adope Photoshop, then use Adobe ImageReady to make gif files. It allows for you to choose how many colors to use, and is really good at optimizing the colors to maintain high image clarity.
