If I were in charge of AS
Aug. 20th, 2005 07:15 pmMy Adult Swim dream schedule:
SATURDAYS (& Thursdays!)
ACTION BLOCK
11:00 - The Vision of Escaflowne
11:30 - Full Metal Alchemist
12:00 - Monster
12:30 - The Twelve Kingdoms
01:00 - Fruits Basket
01:30 - Lupin III (new episodes!)
And after one of those shows runs out of episodes, replace it with Gungrave or Hellsing or Gundam Wing. And eventually, add Naruto as well.
I would have added Princess Tutu to my dream schedule, but even I know that some dreams are simply too grand and too sweet to ever make it to reality.

Date: 2005-08-21 06:38 am (UTC)I'm up to episode 23 now. The show goes at a pretty exciting clip from episodes 1-13, with plenty of squee-worthy fun. (Fun in the sense of plot, I mean. That's my fun of choice.) It slows down its pace a little from episodes 14-22, but still enough to keep me up watching last night so that I only got 4.5 hours of sleep!
What to say about 12K... it's not FMA. Halway through and I know this show is probably not going to make me ball my eyes out like episode 25 or laugh like episode 37. But it's a strong story with characters that I was at first interested in if not necessarily fond of--- who then became characters I liked a lot.
It's not a brainfucking anime. But it's a solid, well-made, beautifully animated, well-written action/adventure fantasy. Which, frankly, I think anime could ALWAYS use more of. It's also based on books, not manga, so it...feels more like reading a novel sometimes, if that makes sense. Also, in terms of plot its never quite gone the way I expected. It's rarely WTFs in a sudden jarring sense, but it's nicely and subtly surprising. I think "they're probably going to take the story this direction," and instead they go another way entirely.
Oh, and an important thing (this alone is usually enough to make ME try an anime)--- the dialogue is good. The scripts are good have a mature style to them. And I appreciate any anime that doesn't dumb itself down for the audience.
But really, I'm squeeing for it right now. It's providing me a temporary vacation from anime like PAgent, which makes my head hurt even though I love it.
