If I can think of some way to make this an official multi-fandom challenge somewhere, I'd like to. But I'm not sure how one gets something like that started.

Do you think people would be interested in a community for it? I know there's lots of prompts lists out there, but a lot of people must have done the big ones by now and might be looking for new prompts...

SuperherogirlCat's got an amusing series of DW fancomics called "When The Doctors Meet", with spoilers for 'Girl In the Fireplace'. My favorite is page 3 and page 6, because page 3 covers my (and [livejournal.com profile] donna_c_punk's) basic reaction to the episode, whereas page 6 has Eight, whom I always love.

If you like both Howl's Moving Castle and Avatar:TLAB, you'll get a kick out of this fanart.

Recently in Avatar fandom I've been writing a lot of fic and have twice now experimented with writing fic for fanart pieces. I've also been lucky enough to have two of my drabbles inspire some fan comics.

Cooperative Fanfic & Fanart

My fic "Got Your Back" was inspired by a K/Z fanart piece by [livejournal.com profile] sylvacoer:
http://www.deviantart.com/view/33032246/

[livejournal.com profile] irrel did two wonderful fan comics for my drabble parody fic "Culture Clash":

Chapter 1: Culture Clash - http://www.deviantart.com/view/30681022/
Chapter 8: Too Much Information - http://www.deviantart.com/view/30681076/

Recently [livejournal.com profile] irrel made a beautiful Z/K fanart which inspired me to write my fic "Rain":
http://www.deviantart.com/view/33679594/

Then [livejournal.com profile] jakia wrote a companion piece to "Rain," a prequel called "Tea Leaves".

Which was then followed up by [livejournal.com profile] retad's companion fic "Meeting".

Well, I finally got around to getting a deviantArt page.

http://rashaka.deviantart.com/

I've got 12 images up, mostly fanart, and photograph. I've got fanart for:

Naruto
Trigun
Harry Potter
Inuyasha
Gundam Wing
Avatar: The Last Airbender

I think the Naruto and the Trigun stuff are the best. They're all fairly old though-- from 5+ years old to 6 months old.

I missed this the first time around. How did I miss it?

V. G. Cats is love, especially when they do an anime-mocking strip.

Funnily enough, the rant about IY being a rip-off version of Fushigi Yuugi is the exact same argument I gave after watching 15 episodes of Saiyuki: "It's FY, but with gay boys, and everyone is more annoying!"

That being linked, I actually liked IY enough to write some fic (especially the manga), but I stopped watching after around 80 episodes. Picked up a few here and there since then, but frankly I liked the first two seasons best. There was also my raging hate-on for Kikyo that reappeared every time she did. Kikyo discussion, spoilers for... I dunno... three seasons? Four? Anime stuff, anyway. )

Wow. I totally didn't expect to sink into a ranty discussion right there. Huh. Guess I have lingering IY issues.

[livejournal.com profile] akavertigo is love.

That's so pretty. Thank you. I want to write more fic just looking at it!

I've been meaning to make a large A:TLAB rec list for a while, and since [livejournal.com profile] donna_c_punk is getting into the show, I thought I'd go all the way and make a Fandom Guide. It's as extensive as I could think to make it with regards to links and communities, with some of my personal commentary on the fandom as a whole, and a fic rec list at the end.

*NOTE: If a listed link lacks commentary, it simply means I'm not familiar enough with it.

This Naruto/Avatar:TheLastAirbender crossover fan-comic amuses me greatly. Because Aang and Naruto would so get along, it's true. And the Zuko/Sasuke comparison is amusing too, even though it's only marginally accurate, because although they've both had crappy childhoods, Zuko's actually a pretty decent kid under all his angst and he hasn't really done anything that bad, and has done a few very good things, whereas Sasuke's done one good thing and is otherwise a complete and total shithead who isn't worth even a drop of the loyalty that Sakura and Naruto give him. If the two characters were to ever meet, Zuko would probably despise Sasuke for being a miniature Zhao.

The fan-comic, though, is awfully cute.

I was snickering and giggling so much my roommate thought I was being weird and then my other housemate came rushing in from the across the hall thinking she heard me crying.

Dude it's funny. I giggled at every single strip they had up. That's pretty rare for me and fancomics. I can't even pick a favorite.

Ok...maybe the one with Snape and the wild animal attack flashback. ::snert::

Really though, the art is great and the writing just cracks me up.

Someone on my flist (edit: [livejournal.com profile] herongale) uploaded an episode of "The Joy of Painting, with Bob Ross" a few days ago, and I nabbed it wondering Is this the show with that guy with the fuzzy hair who made painting look so easy?

It is!

I'm watching it now, and OMGIT'SLIKEHYPNOTISM.ICAN'TLOOKAWAY.

Oh look he's adding a tree!

And look at what he's doing with the pond reflection!

The foliage! How does he do that? I mean, I know how he did it because I just watched him do it, but HOW DOES HE DO THAT?

Now I want to get out my art supplies and try all his neat little tips. And I have an urgent desire to go buy some brushes. None of my brushes are as wide as his! How can I paint without that really wide round brush? I AM NOT COMPLETE WITHOUT IT!

Television is evil.

For all my old school Buffy the Vampire Slayer fans on my flist, I have a rec:

A short, hilarious fan comic by [livejournal.com profile] awmp and [livejournal.com profile] marsterslady, featuring Spike, Buffy, Giles, and Dracula.

page 1

page 2

Most funny. Especially for the little animated touches.

This is still probably my favorite piece of Naruto fan art. And I don't even *like* Sasuke all that much. But this image is pretty damn amazing, from color to style to perspective & aspect ratio, to pure originality. Perspective especially.

Except I can't help but think some day there'd be a near identical image, except the reflection in the forehead protector would be Kakashi instead. Not Naruto, of course-- Naruto wouldn't do it. But Kakashi would. In fact, I read a really eerie fic about that once...

Found this really cool Naruto fanart here:

I just love seeing futuristic Naruto pics, where everyone looks all ninja-y and stuff. I'll take that over a mushy romantic bit of fanart any day.

I firmly believe that Kishimoto draws Kakashi with a mouth to get the character looking right, then just erases it at the last minute.

Because although quite tedius, in the end this wasn't as hard as I expected.

For those curious, here is the full image )

For this kind of editing (and what I did with the Elysia/Envy/Edward icon from earlier this last week), with a lot of cutting & pasting, I've realized it's always better to do all your base image editing when the picture is still large, before you shrink it to 100x100. You'd be amazed how flaws just disappear when you shrink the pictures, and how hard edges become nicely softened, and how it just looks better.

ETA: ...I just realized I have only ONE out of 39 icons loaded on LJ that's solely picturing a female character.

That's weird. I should fix that. I need some gender equality in my iconning...

Recently I came across this wallpaper website and have been happily browsing high quality Naruto wallpapers for an hour. There's about 850, and all of them are decent to good. No outright sucky ones.

I saved a bunch, but I wanted to point out these:

Color version of that teen!Naruto pic where he's got a hair-covering forehead protector.

randomly constructed wallpaper that isn't all that great except that it has Naru/Saku kissing in the bottom left corner. Makes me want to write fic.

Angsty baby!Naruto makes me cry. (his eyes are so uber-blue... did he go to Arakis and overdose on The Spice something?)

Teen!Kakashi is pretty.

Kakashi is just pretty all the time. ...darker hotter version of the same pic which I now dub HOTTEST KAKASHI PICTURE EVER.

the boys of Naruto as... bandits? pirates? I dunno. But it's cool. And for once I actually find Sasuke attractive. I'm actually kinda crushing on him here.

ETA:

Naruto image with very good color work.

Everyone loves Gaara pics!

Everyone loves the 4th Hokage.

Jumping fandoms a bit: This Roy Mustang wallpaper will never not be hot.

[livejournal.com profile] riddering turned me onto this. She is so evil.

And I'm so gonna waste time playing here.

And make more stupid paintings like this one:

And sending this BTVS one out to 5 random people on my flist who have emails posted in their info pages:

...I really need to do some thing productive.
