1. I kinda ship it.

2. "Whiskey!"

3. I'm happy to say that the WTF?!Surprise value has at last eclipsed the WTF?!Ick value for me.

There was a LOT going on this episode. )

That's all for now. Many revelations. I don't see how anyone's supposed to be able to write fanfic for this series, though. How can you characterize people when you have no idea who is who or why or how?

Okay, I still find the characters hard to bond with, but it feels like the gloves have come off the plot at last. All the wackitude and paranoia and illusions are getting twisted together in almost poetic ways. I love it! I finally love it.

I love it in a way that is completely different from my love from Firefly or Buffy. I love it the way I love movies like Memento and brain-melting anime. I do not want it to get cancelled; I want to see where this is going in the long haul.

1x09 specifically )

I am disappointed we have to wait a week for a new episode, but this was a pretty intense ep that I'll chew on for a while.
timepiececlock: (Origin of Love)
This is the third episode in a row that is consistently entertaining, interesting, and provocative. While not as good as episode 7, it's better than episode 6, and leaps and bounds better than episodes 1-5. Now that we seem to be off the Misson Of The Week pattern (for the moment) we're seeing more freedom in storytelling in terms of what the basic concept can be stretched to include. This episode also did the most important thing, the thing this show has failed to do right up until tonight: it gave characterization to the actives, and thus made us care about them.

Now that we (the audience) have glimpsed these insights, I think it will be easier to feel connected to the characters in future episodes. The irony is that now I'm more interested in Sierra, Victor, and November than I ever have been in Echo (although I think Eliza Dushku did her best tonight that she has so far.)

Spoiler comments within. Long comments on plot, heroism, and briefly on ships. )

Over all, I'm looking forward to next week! And I'm finally starting to picture this as a long-term project, as something I could watch and enjoy in future seasons.

Question about this week's Dollhouse, "Gray Hour" and discontinuity/plot holes:

In the pilot episode DeWitt said... )
timepiececlock: (Bite me. -Toph)
Watched Dollhouse 1x03. Was entertained for unexpected reasons and bored for the expected reasons. Still feeling amicable toward the show, still squicked in general, haven't made up my mind yet on the whole thing.

In which I go into extreme ranty detail about sexism on the series, the LJ criticisms I've read about its sexism, sexism in comparable movies, my own reactions to various elements, and why I'm still watching. NO EXPLICIT SPOILERS BEYOND EPISODE 01 and THE VERY FIRST PROMO TRAILER. )

E. Or, instead, let's talk about the lack of real funny. THAT IS THE WORST. Sexism? Not new for Joss. Lack of funny? NEW AND SO DISAPPOINTING.

...All that being said, I am oddly looking forward to next week. Messed up, I know. And I did giggle once in episode 3, though for the life of me I can't remember what scene it was.

ETA: this series *does* hit my conspiracy kink. Anyone could be a doll! Trust no one. Hot FBI agent. The truth is out there.

Two very tiny thoughts, and a Heroes note )

Video review will be up in a few days!

ETA: possibly, the original pilot script? ...might be considered spoilery if they air this ep later.

It's time. Whedon's back on tv, we can all snuggle up with a brownie and a mug of tea and complain about how he hates minorities and women while we fall in love with his casting choices.

Welcome to the Josshouse. I mean Dollhouse. )
