Great Teacher Onizuka -- should I watch it?

Dub or sub?

Any thing that's not spoilery but I absolutely *must* be told about ahead of time? (For instance, I always warn people not to watch the last two episodes of NG Evangelion and to just assume the world ends instead.)

Other thoughts?

... the last series I finished was Bakurano. I still need to finish Monster (I'm so bad, I stopped halfway through for no good reason) and Romeo x Juliet which I keep forgetting that I have.

Been catching up on the series Monster this month. I'm up to episode 40. I've decided that I'm kind of a Nina/Tenma shipper. Loosely, but it's there. I'm not sure if I can imagine them in a relationship, but I can imagine them jumping each other after some terrible and stressful confrontation with Johan.

I still like Dieter, but I'm not sure what the point is of his presence. He hasn't done much in the last dozen episodes, and he usually only does two things: fill convenient plot gaps, and be Tenma's conscience when it comes to violence. I still like him, though.

spoilers for episode 40 and below )

I was chatting with another LJer who was looking for someone to watch Monster with ([livejournal.com profile] donna_c_punk, btw, is looking for peeps to rewatch new Doctor Who with), and as I've only seen up to episdoe 25 of Monster I said sure. Then I thought... how about a Monster rewatch community?

The principle behind rerun/rewatch/reread communities (as I understand it) is that you post weekly or biweekly (as desired) episode discussions. And anyone who missed the first airing of shows can squee with other new fans, and old fans can rewatch their show a second time from the beginning to get greater perspective on the show. Example: [livejournal.com profile] homicidereruns.

Is anyone interested in a community like this for the Monster anime? I would love to have other people to discuss the show with in a forum where I don't have to worry about spoilers beyond what everyone participating has seen. I've been putting off finishing the last 2/3rds of the anime and I think some good ole' peer discussion would inspire me to finish it.

If people are interested, we can set up the comm and find out how often people want to watch the episodes (1 episode a week? 3 or 4 episodes a week?) and so on.

Comment if you're up for it!

Episode 20 - episode 22 teaser:
a question )
timepiececlock: (Katara/Zuko - space between)
So, besides watching a few Monster episodes, I am brooding over the fact that I don't have any new Katara/Zuko fic to read. I've already read all the ones I have on author alert, and I suppose I could go browse the latest two days in FF.net... which I probably will do anyway... but that rarely yeilds fruitful results. And the comm is slow the last few days too.

::pout:: Fic, fic, where are you? I really need some season2 K/Z fic. I've only found a few so far.

Also, I'm getting a strange desire to make dirty joke Aang/Katara icons. Specifically, using the river scene from episode 2.2, to these lyrics. Such an icon would sure get one sent to the Special Hell. I can't decide which would be better with these pics in the third row:

"You do one for Mama / She'll do one for you"

"Don't you know that this hand / Washes that one too"

"When you're strokin' Mama / Mama's strokin' you"

....Yeah, the Special Hell.

In other A:TLAB news, I'm really jealous that iTunes has the new episode out already, a week early. That's cruel and unusual punishment to the rest of us.

Now onto Monster episode 20...

Episode 18

This ep was kind of droll. I didn't care for the supporting character, but didn't dislike him either. It was cool to see the character development for Nina, but I'm a little lost on the timeline of events right now. I need a graphic representation or something. A literal timeline. I don't even remember what the current year is...

Episode 19

I liked this episode better. Read more... )

I've noticed something about the character design for this show from the very beginning, and it's always interested me. It's the fact that none of the characters are pretty. Even the "pretty" female characters like Nina aren't that prettily drawn. Instead the animators really go for a kind of realness. This is an anime where almost none of the characters look like anime characters. I've also noticed the propensity for drawing male characters with round faces and thick necks. When you're used to watching anime series with little or no resemblence to reality, it's a bit of a startling change to see a series that looks like it's actually drawing real people.

So... personalities?

Huh.

I remember again how much I love these opening credits

"Be My Baby"? His personal choice for theme music is Be My Baby?

That's it--without question Monster wins for best use of totally inappropriate theme music by a villain undre really freaky circumstances.

This series has a really subversive style that I adore.

I haven't been this excited about an anime series in the early episodes since Princess Tutu, and before that FMA. I *want* episode 5, now. Immediately. I need it.

I think I've found my new crush.

Monster, episode 1, 10:30 minutes in:

"Not all lives are of equal importance."

::gasp:: Bitch! Dump her, Simon Tam Tenma. She's evil. Dump her, and then run away to wander around train stations looking out for creepy stuff the way you do in the opening credits!

15:40 minutes in:

Dude, Tenma my boy, did you just wake up on the wrong side of the bed today and start noticing things you've never even had a clue about, or what? How could you work for this guy and go out with this woman and not notice how completely inhuman they are?

20:00 minutes in:

This hospital is so fucked up.

I've said it before once, but the ending credits imagery for this show just CREEPS ME THE FUCK OUT. Like, seriously. It's just wrong and disturbing. Not in a gross way, but in a way that makes me want to hide under the covers and never come out.

Clearly I will be needing more than 4 episodes of this show.
