timepiececlock: (Jin - rain dark)
The good thing about tonight is that I have the internet again.

The bad thing about having the internet again is that right now my connection is so slow I might as well not have it all, when it comes to downloading certain things. It seems that my computer is physically too far away from the router, and the wireless connection is always "low", never "good" or "very good."

YSI downloads appear to range from 6 K/sec to 185 K/sec, depending on the link itself. (this compared to the 400-800K rate I was getting on campus) And so far bittorrent clocks in at a shocking........2 K/sec. Yes, that's right, 2. Deux. Dos. Just a bit above nada.

So my big plan for downloading mass things from bittorrent before I move out of my parents house again has apparently been shot down brutally. It's still YSI for me. At least 100ish K/sec is still pretty good. Not wonderful, but fast enough for my purposes.

A bunch of new FB icons for you. A couple animated, stills and bases. I will never get bored of making Hatsuharu icons, and Shigure will never not be pretty.

teasers:

Shigure, Rin - mild dialogue and image spoilers for volumes 10-11ish, deliberately misconstrued on my part to be falsely representative of actual events, cause I'm evil that way )

Hatsuharu and Yuki: no spoilers )

I just listened to the first 30 seconds of Gary Allan's cover of "Best I Ever Had" by Vertical Horizon.

I had to turn it off after 30 seconds with a vocal shudder. Way to ruin a song. I'm all "Wait, what? No! Stop it! Just stop it, damnit! That song was fucking fine! It was beautiful and now it sounds all twang-y and why, WHY did you feel that was necessary? Please stop hurting it."

It never fails to amaze me how shamelessly the country music industry will rip off any love song that was popular on pop charts (or in the case of this song, not very popular on charts as a single, more of an indie favorite off their ablum), remake it with a country twang accent, and proceed to rape it for its value to an audience of country music fans.

One of the many (MANY) reasons I don't listen to country radio stations. I can't go an hour without hearing a country-fied remake of something I have probably bought or downloaded the original for. And the only reason I've listened long enough to know that much is because of a few road trips with the sort of people who do listen to country radio stations.

It pisses me off nearly as much as the sampling of my favorite rock and pop songs and ballads that the rap industry regularly practices. The only reason sampling for rap bothers mea smidgen more than sampling for country is that I've been exposed to rap songs more, and had more unfortunate opportunity to think about it. They both piss me off.

For some reason, remaking or covering songs within the same music genre doesn't piss me off. What's up with that? Then again, I think it's the regularity of it in the country and rap industries that really gets me. It's friggin systematic.

SIDE NOTES FROM WATCHING VH1 WAY TOO EARLY IN THE MORNING:
I always forget how hot the lead singer of Lifehouse is until the next time I see him. I always think "Wow, he's my kind of hot", but then I never retain the memory for any significant length of time.
Why do I like Kelly Clarkson's new video? The song isn't even all that great...but damn if I don't like the video.

Found this really cool Naruto fanart here:

I just love seeing futuristic Naruto pics, where everyone looks all ninja-y and stuff. I'll take that over a mushy romantic bit of fanart any day.

[livejournal.com profile] octopedingenue, thank you again for re-uploading chapter 13 for me. It's like the shippiest shippy thing ever.

...Now that I think about it, this series really has me strung along if some tidbits so small get me all up in arms about my ship. But... everything is low key in FB in a way, so it's the little things you have to rave about! And oh, I'm raving. OTP, OTP ALL THE WAY!

And you know, I'm just starting to notice it, but... the mangaka has really aged some of the characters. When did that happen? I'm suddenly noticing that Kyo looks definitely more 17-18 now instead of 16. And Momiji definitely looks older too.

"Be My Baby"? His personal choice for theme music is Be My Baby?

That's it--without question Monster wins for best use of totally inappropriate theme music by a villain undre really freaky circumstances.

This series has a really subversive style that I adore.

Had a nightmare. I was trapped in a tiny, one-room motel room (with a door facing outside, at ground level), with Christopher Ecclestons' 9th Doctor and another girl who might've been a combination of two girls, a cousin and a friend, in real life. Oh, and my own little poodle Shadow, he was there too.

That wasn't the nightmare. The nightmare is that we had to barricade ourselves in because the outside world was being overrun by the zombies from 28 Days Later. Only zombie dogs tried to get in, but there were zombie people wandering around out there. All we had was a bag of junk-- a few books, two bricks, a couple rocks to throw at the zombie dogs if we should happen to have to open the door for some reason. But we had little to nothing to eat, and we were lucky only zombie dogs seem to know we were there, because you can't barricade a door well with a couple of bricks and a bed, not against a mob of fully adult zombies.

Most of the time the three of us huddled on the bed (unfortunately my cousin-friend was between me and the doctor), listening to the noise of the carnage outside and generally feeling totally overcome with abject horror about our chances of survival.

EDIT: I must say, now that I have some distance from the nightmare, I'm actually quite disappointed. Here we had an apocalyptic world-ending experience, and the Doctor was right there, and instead of fixing it we were holed up in a motel room talking about inane things and ignoring the screams and sounds of crashing stuff and ripping flesh. Why didn't he save the world, dammit?

[livejournal.com profile] arafel, my last Samurai Champloo rec left you disappointed.

Horrible, horrible! This will not do. It must be rectified. My reputation as a fic reccer is endangered!

And indeed, I have found what I believe is the perfect Jin fic for you. And not just because I really like it and consider it also the perfect Jin fic for me. No, I tell you quite honestly and forthright, that it is simply wonderful-- thoughtful, amusing, witty, a little sad, and kind of...bemusing.

I think you will quite enjoy it.

Waring: contains spoilers for events regarding Jin's backstory that are revealed in episodes 24 or 25, though it is actually set about midway through the series.
