Jul. 18th, 2003 12:51 pmI'm no Davis fan, but I swear if Arnold Swartz-his-face gets elected governor of my state, I might as well never read a newspaper again for at least 4 years.
Have we no pride left, my fellow Californians?

Date: 2003-07-18 01:22 pm (UTC)First off, Republican. I have issues right there.
Second, actor. I will always inherently mistrust him, because how can I know if he's telling the truth if he lies for a living? That's not to dismiss acting as a profession, because I think acting is a cool thing and very difficult, but when politics is a suspicious career to begin with, I'd rather not have it filled by someone whose spent a career tryign to convince people believe what isn't real.
Besides, who was the last actor we had as our Governor? Reagan.
Thirdly, he has no experience in a political office. He might have been active in the political part for many years, but he hasn't been a state legislator or been elected as a Congressman or been a mayor of any city. So he's popular, so what? That doesn't mean he knows what the hell he's doing. He hasn't even pick that wonderful of scripts this past few years in his own career.
Fourth, Republican. No amount of his smiling will change that fact. I'm mad enough at the Republicans at a a national level, I don't need them in charge here as well.

Seriously though, I can see why you wouldn't want that guy anywhere near political power. But isn't being a Republician going to rather hinder him? Last time I checked, Calafornia was about as democratic a state as you could get!

We're a bunch of liberals who switch political parts in leadership roles every few terms. Reagan was a Republican, as was Nixon, and they were both California governors. Lately California has been strognly Democratic in its elections, but backlash from Gray Davis might change that. I hope it doesn't, because I personally do not want to face voting for a Republican as my only option, and neither does anyone else, but if they start the recall it could happen.
