In case you think I've suddenly had a brain tumor and foresaken all my other fandoms, take a gander and balk alongside me at this bit of movie remake news.

I don't know what the goal is of such an undertaking, because it seems nothing but a step backward to me. I'm not against the idea of a film remake, but that'd be, like, ten years from now. Fifteen even. Craps, some of the actors of the tv show are still in their 20s! I'd much rather see a new original story set in the same universe: a different Slayer with a new tale to tell.

ETA: Actually, that's exactly what they should do! A new Slayer, a new movie. And then after three new Slayers, we can have a Vampire Slayer team superhero movie! And Buffy, who has arthritis at 36, can preside over them and conquer the first four levels of the Hell dimension and, on the side, acquire her firefighter's certification.

ETA2: I'm kind of surprised that "sleeping on a bed of bones" [Restless, "I don't sleep on a bed of bones."] hasn't been made into an episode of Bones yet!

Just imagine it: they find a mattress stuffed with human bones! Tucked into the springs, waiting like a revolting parody of The Princess & The Pea. It seems like exactly the kind of job for Booth and Brennan.

I really want to see a Bones Booth/Brennan fan vid to the song "Falling Slowly" from the movie Once, except the video in my head takes place after the seventh season when the show ends and the curtain closes on a kiss (god knows) you can tell the end is near...

Dear Bones,

Why is it so hard to write fic for you? I could be intimidated by the technical language of your main character, but that never stopped me from making up science talk for the Doctor in Doctor Who or completely avoiding actual magic wordage for Harry in Harry Potter, so it can't be that. It might be that I like Booth and Brennan just the way they are and are afraid to mess them up by playing with them, but that kind of messing is what fanfic is for, so it's probably not that. It could also be that I don't expressly identify with either character so I have difficulty getting into their heads...not that I ever seriously identified with Buffy, though, and I wrote tons of fic about her.

...It's probably the science language thing. For the wizards I can say "Harry mumbled, flicked his wand, and the street lights went dark." I can write thousands of words about wizards without actually saying a single spell. But it sounds a bit silly to say, "Doctor Brennan picked up the bone, told her assistant what amazing discovery she'd just made, and he concurred that it most definitely meant the killer had a hangnail and a gimp leg. They agreed that they'd have to arrest the mayor--and that Booth was going to be unhappy about it."

I suppose I could write only from Booth's POV and invent humorous euphemisms for technical terms so that every time Brennan spoke what Booth actually heard was like a completely different language, but that'd get irritating after a while, I bet.

GGRRRRR! Why mush my new favorite characters all be so goddamn smart and tech-y?

Sincerely,

Rashaka

Maybe I just need ideas. Drabble ideas, anyone? Prompts?

I want to read a fic crossover with Bones and Doctor Who. I think this would make me very, very, happy.

My internet decided to start working today so I was able to acquire a bunch of episodes, either dl or streaming, and finished season 2. Jack & Angela at the end of 2x21 were absolutely precious. Also, I love the prosecutor who's on as a recurring character. She rocks.

The last shot of them at the end of this episode is adorable---graphically, it makes me think of the end of Pride & Prejudice.

Booth: You know I love this place, I love it. I love this country. You know I tell you something: if I was working law enforcement back in the day when they threw all that tea, alright, in the harbor—I’m good, I’m good. I would have rounded everybody up and we’d still be English.

This quote was a revelation to me, because it showed me at last what other character Booth reminds me of in fiction: Commader Sam Vimes of Terry Pratchett's Discworld. A little younger, but just as jaded. Loves his country, loves his city, loves being a cop, loves his quirky team of people. A guy who works, as Stephen Colbert might say, "from the gut." Truth, justice, reasonably priced love, and a hard boiled egg. Booth is certainly hard-boiled, even if he's only 35.

I don't know why I always want to compare fictional characters to other fictional characters, but there you go. In terms of roles the easiest comparison for Booth is Special Agent Fox Mulder, of course, being the emotion-driven, justice-seeking, bleeding-heart and anger-burdened FBI agent, who is paired with the logical, sexy, sometimes cold-seeming, sometimes red-hared scientist lady, who share joking repartee and secret puppy-dog eyes of longing and desire. IT IS A PROVEN COMBINATION! AS PROVED BY....BY BONES HAVING REACHED FOUR SEASONS ALREADY. I predict this same combo (emotive g-man + red haired scientist lady) will be recreated in yet another show within two years after the end of this show. Clearly, fox needs to only hire ginger-haired women and tall, brown-haired, generically handsome men. And black guys with cool gravelly voices. (What happened to Dr. Holland or whatever, anyway? I liked him. I want a PHD so he'll talk to me.)

All that being said, while the Mulder comparisons are easy, they are mostly superficial stuff. Job, appearance, attitude. In terms of all the gushy inner character motivations, Booth and Mulder are pretty different, and so a better comparison is needed. Which made me think, at last, of...VIMES! Vimes, whom I also love. Vimes who loves his city, loves his people, loves his son, loves being a copper. Vimes who desperately needs Stephen Fry to be his therapist, but gets by without him anyway. Booth, like Vimes, will arrest anyone if he thinks that person deserves arresting, and he's not afraid to arrest his boss as easily as the guy on the street corner. They also both have the killer instinct and just enough darkness inside them to help them understand why its important for the darkness to stay inside. I love them!

P.S. Bones has killed my NaNoWriMo. Killed it deader than a serial killer being chucked off a balcony dead. All those gorgeous peeps who were hoping to read bits of it as I posted them may direct their blame at [livejournal.com profile] irrel who promised me this show was so cool and full of UST and shit. Damn her! Now I'm marathonning it when I should be writing.

This was only, like, the coolest episode of the whole show so far. i loved the setting (made me miss New Orleans), loved the fast-moving plot, loved the revelations of A and B plots. And the characters! So much juicy characterization here. For Booth, for Hodgkins, for Angela. Bones was the sane as she nornally is, but Booth was ALL KINDS OF CRAZY. He just swooped in there like a... I dunno, liike something, and proceeded to go all Mulder on her and totally overreact and yet also be her only advocate in a den of enemies. And he brought kegal back up, which kind of makes me love him even more. Booth thinks ahead, all the time, without fail. Speaking of loving characters, the last few episodes....I'm looking at how Booth reacts to Bones, and I'm thinking two scenarios:

1. Booth is an unusually loyal person who will go out of his way for friends and trusted partners, and worries about them on a Barney-Stinson scale level of neediness, possibly taking care of them to make up for not being able to take care of his child. This...isnt a very good theory, because Booth ignores everyone but Bones, and seems pretty socially well-adjusted.

2. Booth is totally, completely in love with Bones. And he doesn't know it yet.

I love shipping a ship where there is so much mutual professional respect and personal affection. They are so fucking cute. So, obviously, I'm favorite scenario #2. I feel like using my PT icon for this one. It seems to fit.

Aawwww....

Just....Aaaaaawwwwww....

The dancing was so cute, and I loved Angela's comment about Boothe trying to be Brennan's kinght in standard-issue FBI body armor. I love how sincerely Booth cares about Bones's well-being and how much he respects and values her as a partner. The pair is totally hitting my Mulder/Scully partnership kink. Better than any other similar show has since XF.

I'm sad Agent Jayne turned out to be a bad guy...

Bones

How did I go so long without watching this show? I'm suddenly addicted! It's a crime serial, except it's not boring. It's actually charming, and amusing, and I like the side characters. It makes me want to get a doctorate and join the smart people club. Also, DB looks thinner and hotter than he did for the last two seasons of Angel, His giant neck is...not so giant. And he and Bones have chemistry! I think her name is Brenner, but in my head I call her Bones.

I want a cool, abiguosouly intimidating nickname like 'Bones'. Except, in my current line of work, the equivalent would be 'Clipboard', which is unlikely to intimidate anyone who zips their own pants in the morning.

Potential shipping: Yep, I'm shipping B/B. I like how that works whether you mean Brenner or Bones. Anyway, It's hard not to ship them. They smoulder! That's actually the most chemistry I've seen DB have with anyone on screen since Angel/Darla. It's like, with Booth's character, DB gets to have all the sexy allure of Angelus, but instead he fights crime. And makes not-so-vague allusions to assassinating people with a sniper rifle. (That need to make amends for past killings...that's pretty familiar, though.) As it is, I'm wondering how many people he actiually would have shot, in the army. I mean, I saw Jarhead. The whole movie was about the Marine snipers waiting to make even one kill shot. I imagine it's probably like cops on tv drawing their guns all the time, when real life cops do it only a few times in their careers.

Anyway, I'm onto episode 6. This is great fun. I will want to read some fic after I marathon to current seasons. Still, if anyone has any recs, do pass them along. With timeline-appropriate warnings, please.
